I love the Versatility and look of my Nikon. But I really like the nifty crisp LCD screen that all the Canons have. The thing i dont like about Canon is the Lag that it has when you sort thru the pics while your viewing on the camera. Nikon is Pretty awesome when it comes to that. No lag, I wanna here all your thoughts pros and cons. Spare no feelings. Once again Im a nikon man myself.

I was actually just asking myself if I should have gotten a Nikon digital slr instead of my Canon... the answer for me was no..... I have always owned a canon and the lenses from my film canon fit my digital canon. I also purchased lenses dedicated to digital but everything else that I owned for my film bodies I pretty much just switched over to my digital...... I totally agree with you about the camera not really being that important in getting a great shot..... I collect cameras and my cheap little Holga takes THE best pics... they come out looking surreal, no two are alike and I also use an old Polaroid Reporter camera and an old Twin lens reflex Yashica with the waist level finder...... Love them both!!
I just pulled the trigger and purchased my first dslr. I went with the canon eos rebel xsi. I know it's not a "big boy" camera but I was looking for something to hone my shooting skills and add limited still services to my video business.
I think it's going to be a good fit.
Of course, I just checked the UPS tracking and it's supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I probably won't be able to sleep tonight...
>Gulp< I just checked out the price of said lens... let's say it's on my wishlist. Hopefully I'll be posting some pix soon.

Filmmonkey,

Congrats on the purchase.

Now you get to experience the wonderful world of Canon L glass.

Oh that pretty pretty red stripe.

Remember "L" stands for luxury.

Go out there and go buy the 70-200 f/2.8 IS.
Yeah,
I do know where you are coming from. Why my purchase now was based primarly on financial decisions, once things ease up a bit I think a glass upgrade will be in order.

Here's something you should always remember.

If you're going to spend money - spend it glass.

Bodies come and go.

With digital they're nothing but chips boxes.

But glass last forever.

I shoot with lenses my father purchased in the early 1960's.
I dare not get into Canikon discussions. I shoot Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and Sony DSLRs, plus a host of film bodies as well. They all have their pluses and minuses.

If I had to choose one camera I liked, I would say the one that hasn't been built yet, because every camera I have has some issue that bothers me.
I started with Canon and I will die with Canon.
Nikon Baby !!! I used to shoot with canon EOS ( film ) and it kicked ass........... I friend of mine at work showed me a new nikon dslr and I was blown away with the colors it grabbed. I picked up a d-50 a while back and it's so easy to use and then I picked up a D2h for sports ( 8fps) and a 40 frame buffer..... awesome. Nikon glass I ( personal opinion) is better than Canon. Nothing wrong with either company it's just what we prefer.... Me it's Nikon.... Next up is a HassleBlad H3D ( frickin' sweet !!!) .................Just my 2 cents.... The RED is interesting ( cool concept ) .................

That's what I shoot with...I've wanted a Canon, it seems like all the photos I'm in love with were shot by a Canon...

What type of Nikon do you have? If you are talking about a SLR i would stick with the Nikon as you would save money on buying lenses.
Canon for me :D

I got to demo a H3D for a day, and after working with it.

Sad to say I'm not all that impressed.

I'm speaking as a owner of a couple 500's and 503's.

The image quality was ok but not what you'd expect from a $30,000 camera.

It is better than a 1ds MkIII, but not better than a Phase One back on my Mamiya 645.

And I just didn't like the "plastickiness" of it.

It doesn't feel like a Swedish Hassy.

That probably because Hassy is now owned by Shriro, a Chinese company, and the cameras are now made by Fuji.

You can actually buy the same camera in Japan with the Fuji name, and it's alot less expensive than the one with the Hassy label.

Wonder if this looks familiar?

One of the most annoying thing about the H3D is that you're forced to use the Hassy digital back and all future H-system lenses will only work with the H3D.

There is absolutely no backwards compatibility.

I must say it is a pretty camera and it does impress your photog friend.

But since you're a Nikon shooter, why not just wait for the D3x or if you don't already have a Hassy system go to a Mamiya 645AF with a Phase One back.

Have you looked at the new Pentax? Just a suggestion, i think its like a happy melding of nikon and cannon! But really, its all about the person behind the camera!
Best bang for the BUCK ? both are cool , the lenses make it happen ....peace
