Do any of you ladies (or gentlemen) have any experience of a perm?

I have been doing pin curls etc for years but getting sick of my fine straight hair when it's not in curls, I'm also sick of doing pin curls. So I'm thinking about doing a perm to get some curls and volume. I'm aware of that I would prolly still have to pin curl it into shape but I'm thinking that a perm would make them last longer and also on days when I don't set it, it won't look so straight and fine. I have hair to my shoulders now.

So have any of you ever done a perm or do you have any suggestions, should I do it or not...?

I say NO, don't do it.  It's damaging and has anyone ever really been happy with the results?

LOL, you're right. I have thought about it and also with everyone advising me not to I don't think I'll go through with it.

Still wish I could get my paws on some Conair hot sticks though, they don't sell them in Europe...

As a naturally curly girl, I have to say that I don't recommend perming.
When I go to do my hair, I have to straighten it only to then put rollers in my hair to create that specific curl.
My hair loses body when I straighten it, too.  And if any moisture touches my hair at all (the humidity has not been kind), that's it.  Big poofy mess.  It's a big pain in the butt.
That being said, perms can grow out.  I'm not necessarily discouraging perming.  Just warning you on what you may experience.
Another thing to consider if you haven't yet would be mousses and other such products that add volume.

Thank you for your input. I would love to have naturally curly hair but you know what they say straight hair wants curls and vice versa ;) I think I'll refrain to perm my hair, I went to a hairdresser the other day to ask her opinion and she said that I would prolly regret it...
