I gals, I'm looking into starting sewing my own dresses and was wondering what your favorite pattern for sewing is? Do you like to make your own clothes or just a few things on the side?

also if anyone knows where to find cute ones online, it would be much appreciated.

www.etsy.com is the best place for authentic vintage patterns and you can get some great vintage clothes on there as well. I do alot of sewing and get so much of my inspiration on here :) hope this helps xxx
If you want vintage patterns your best bet is ebay or etsy. Make sure that you read the measurements cuz of course a sz 12 pattern is not going to be a sz 12 dress, especially on a vintage pattern. All of the major pattern companies are making reproductions. McCalls, Simplicity, Vogue and Butterick are all technically the same company and they all make really nice repro patterns. I make ALL of my clothes and I'm currently working as a seamstress. My clothing line is Dancin Doll Clothing. Ebay and Etsy are my favorite!!

i am barely going to start venturing into the world of commercial patterns myself

good luck to us <3

I suggest Colette patterns.

I've made several of her patterns and they all fit great and have a vintage flare to them. The directions are super simple for beginners as well. I also love the Ava dress pattern by victory patterns.

I currently have half of one made. It more of an intermediate level pattern, but had come together easy enough. I cannot wait to finish it when I can sew again.

My favorite pattern site is evadress.com  they have reproductions from the  20s 30s 40s and 50s (as well as stuff going back to the victorians too)

A pattern of theirs I use alot is a 1930s tea dress, just lovely. Their hat patterns are nice too if you are interested in making your own hats.

I make a large chunk of my own wadrobe. It started out because I was looking for some really specific items and couldnt find them to to fit me propperly and I ended up hooked.

I by alot of patterns but cant ever just make them 'as-is' I always feel the need to change them in some way!
