"I was not trying to be shocking, or to be a pioneer. I wasn't trying to change society, or to be ahead of my time. I didn't think of myself as liberated, and I don't believe that I did anything important. I was just myself. I didn't know any other way to be, or any other way to live."- Bettie Page 1923-2008

Bettie Page dies at 85

Bettie Page, the legendary 1950s pin-up queen with a shoulder-length pageboy hairdo and kitschy bangs whose saucy photos helped usher in the sexual revolution of the 1960s, has died, the L.A Times is reporting. She was 85.
She suffered a heart attack one week ago and never regained consciousness.

Page, whose later life was marked by depression, violent mood swings and several years in a state mental institution, died at a Los Angeles hospital where she had been on life support since she had a heart attack on Dec. 2, according to her agent, Mark Roesler.

Her popularity as an underground, guilty pleasures phenomenon has continued to soar despite the fact that the reclusive Page disappeared almost a half century ago. A cult-culture figure, Page was most famous for the estimated 20,000 4-by-5-inch black-and-white glossy photographs taken by amateur shutterbugs from 1949 and to 1957.

Beautiful Bettie will be missed but never forgotten..She changed the world..I don't know if I've ever done a shoot where I didn't tell the girl to pop that leg out like Bettie..She was and always will be the pinup queen!
May she rest in peace!!
I guess it really is true that God only takes the best and most beautiful to be his angels and serve him! Bettie you will be greatly missed but will forever live on in the hearts of pin up lovers everywhere!
I've had no power for 2 days, so this is the first I could respond. I was saddened by this, she was and will always be a true classic beauty. So many try to emulate her, but there will only be one Bettie Page...
Rest in Peace....
This is such sad news :(
Its hard to believe such a strong woman like Bettie Page has now gone.
She was such an inspiration to millions of people everywhere and a role model to be proud of.
She wasn't afraid to be who she was and to know curves is a blessing.

It is sad to see such a great person that has opened so many doors pass away. She will be forever missed but her spirit will live on.
Someone who is such a legend in her life you expect to live forever. I was so saddened by the news, I hope though Miss Page finally found the peace she was always looking for in her life now that she has passed on to PinUp Model heaven she deserves all the love in the world! She left us with so much, which took so much of herself to give us. Bettie has always been a model of mine for as long as I can remember, when some people heard of the news I heard "I thought she passsed on years ago" or "who is Bettie Page"? So see she was a unique person who gave her self to her uniquie fans who all share the love of of a certain life style that out siders dont understand, Bettie began as an underdog and took the world by storm and at a point it became too much for her and that made me sad, so saying that I am saddend that she is gone but hope the peace and love she longed for she finally gets, say hi to my other fav gal Miss Monroe, you both have been my inspiration and you are what women should be! RIP Miss Page may GOD keep his new Angel safe and happy. Page Monroe
Hey Guys and Gals,

Not sure if I have replied to this or not, but Ms. Bettie Mae Page was the most beautiful Pinup of her day. I fell in love with her about 3 years ago. I am a part of her Fan Club. I have her tattooed on me twice. In fact, the Pic of her at the beach with the dates of her life, I have tattooed on my lower right leg. I am going to her birth and death dates tatted on my leg. She is one of the reasons why I have always loved pinups. All women are beautiful in their own special way.
RIP Bettie...
one of my dreams was to meet her...what a shame, another beautiful inspirational person gone.

Agreed Our Prayers are with her and her Loved Ones ...... thank God for Photographers they have captured her for us to enjoy .............c
She will be remembered in all of her photographs and live on with each and every tribute photo by seasoned and new/upcoming models for YEARS to come.. It's wonderful how one person can touch so many lives. RIP
