Hello All,

I recently moved to the LA area and am looking for an affordable place to buy vintage or pin up style clothes. I found some online sources but their all a little pricey and Im a little broke :). Plus they're not local.

I found a warehouse sale this weekend and made a post about it here. It's a company called Folter and they are local. Other than that I found some stores on melrose ave but the prices their are outrageous.

Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ashy

The thread on where to shop is awesome. But I was hoping to get help finding local shops. I found some help on google. If anyone lives in the LA area and knows some awesome shops please let me know.

Thanks for the reply

I am not totally sure of the shopping etiquette here. But I do have a recommendation. It is the Stop Staring warehouse in Paramount. They are essentially selling factory seconds of their dresses. But it seems like top of the line quality to me. And the prices at the warehouse seem to be about a third or half off of retail. Their clothes are so marvelous and they look so good. Now there are just a couple of problems. The warehouse store is only open M-F 10 AM-4 PM. They have just 2 very small changing rooms, which are more like the size of something a magician's assistant goes into. Oh and the store has no sign. But I guarantee that if you can make it there, you will fall in love with their clothing and you will have to buy some things.

Check out www.dystyle.ro we have international shipping!

Well, I don't think I will be shopping in Romania any time soon. But you never know.

But since I am back here I just have to mention a newish find for me. It is located just north of Downtown LA and it is called Shareen Vintage:http://www.shareen.com/. It is in a warehouse in an industrial part of town. And it is rather unique, there are no dressing rooms. But there are dressing stations arranged throughout the store. That is why there is a "no boys allowed" sign on the entrance. And the prices are not posted on the clothing. The sales clerks will tell you the prices after you've finished shopping. And then you decide if you want to buy what you've picked out. So far, most of the vintage dresses I've bought have been in the fifty dollar range. My experience there has been just wonderful. The sales girls are just fantastic and once you tell them what you like and what size you wear, they will pull clothing from throughout the store to suit what you want. The clothes are arranged by category and time period. The prices are not bargain basement and it is a little weird how the pricing and no men policies are set up. But I absolutely love the place. I have bought some amazing vintage dresses there. And if I do say so myself, they look great on me! I was just there yesterday, my second visit within two weeks. And I will be back!
