Personally I hate them. I think they look cheap. I don't think they are sexy, either. I absolutely hate seeing pin-ups in retro hair and wardrobe wearing stripper shoes.

There, I said it!

I guess it would depend on the look one is going for. I mean, a cute swing dress and stripper heals is kind of...a clash of fashions, if you will.
But in a whole, for me, anything over 6 inches is getting closer and closer to tacky by the millimetre..

It seems to be one of those hate or love type things. My personal fashion peeve is stockings with open toe shoes...Peep-toe shoes with stockings is bareable...
I agree!...or cuban heels with sling backs...also something I think looks tacky

I agree. It always throws me off when I see a good photo with trashy stripper shoes. I think there's a fine line what falls into stripper shoes and what doesn't though. For example:

CLEARLY..... that is funny!!!
Nice pun! LOL

I have 1 pair of "Stripper" heels for sale on cosignment. Lotta looks but no bites. I tend to lean more toward the classic look of a mid-heeel pump myself. Doctor D Originals: myspace.com/darrellaroberts

I love them. Of course I'm a big fan of fetish styling myself. I'm also a big fan of mixing looks so I love to take a classic look and modernize it. Whether it's adding a touch of fetish or punk or what-have-you. I love to take a classic silhouette and pair it with, for example, a pair of 7 in. platform open toe-ed slingbacks. And let's not forget about Bettie Page's platform, patent leather boots with the white laces. Looks like the stripper shoe is vintage.
LOL! I hate them too, but sometimes when you're doing a shoot the girls really have their heart set on them..I rather have no shoes @ all! Point those toes!!

The shoes Marilyn wore (which i too have been searching for for years!!) are the cutest platforms but differ from the "stripper shoes" in the width of the heel. Most stripper looking shoes have those tiny little "i could get stuck in a crack im so small" heel.
i agree. I think they are just as important as having retro hairstyle. If everything isn't right then it will ruin a shoot.
I think they you should put your own spin onto it. but i don't this was negative and I too agree that stripper shoes look cheap and generally, they are inexpensively priced...

Hey, wear what you want. You will never catch me in stripper shoes because I think they are ugly. My personal style, my personal taste.

i agree with a tip slot being just absolutely horrible, but i think the rest of this post is really negative.
we're not in the 40s here, it's a new time and even with going vintage i think it's normal to add a twist from your own time.
i don't think it's absolutely necessary for your entire look to be from this particular time period, and if you're a fan of those big stillettos - go for it.
this reminds me of an episode of daria (oh yeah 90s mtv) where Jane was dating a guy was really vintage and one night he got on her ass for wearing a 30s dress with 40 shoes and he said it cheapened the look until she pointed out he was wearing a zoot suit to go to a 60s tiki bar. where do you even get zoot suits?
anyways...
i think there's just so many ways of doing the vintage thing that everyone will have their own spin on it.
I think they're ok as long as you have the right look to go with them. I would never wear them in a retro shoot or with a retro outfit, that's a major no no. But I had a pair of light up ones back in the late 90's when I was a raver and I loved them. And I used a clear pair as glass slippers with a sexy Cinderella costume once. Sometimes they look cheap, but I think they're ok for certain outfits.
Stripper shoes don't fit into retro/vintage shoots. Very few models, if any, can pull that off.
