I can't get it down..It never turns out right..Does anyone have any tips for me..I do 90% of the hair and makeup on my shoots..Everytime I get a gal with short hair I have no idea how to do it..I curl it, but if there isn't much hair what do you do?! I've tried using hats to spice it up, but I don't want my ladies to have bad hair..

Well, I am by no means a hair stylist and I am positive you'll get better replies than me for this topic but I'm a gal with short hair and I find myself having this problem a lot as well. I do however, style my hair like the picture below a lot and I find it comfortable, easy to do and cute to boot so it's always a little somethin' if you're in a pinch and need somethin' that's simple. :) The bottom picture is what my hair looks like without the bandana, in case you need an idea of what I start with. Hope this helps, kinda. I'll def. be checking back with this discussion for more "professional" ideas that people might suggest! ha! :)

Wigs are fun to play around with...be sure to buy wig caps to keep it sanitary
Im not sure how short you are talking...but....there is so much inspiration for short hairstyles! First you want to establish are you doing hair that is suppose to be for a certain time period or just "pin up" hair....to me there is a difference. If you are doing hair for a certain time period, consider the length you have to work with and then get some inspiration! Look at photos, vintage hairstyling books/magazines. Some of these books/mags will even have set directions. But look at ladies from your time period. Short hair is definately what women of the past had, so there are styles that can be done. Some ladies to maybe get some ideas from could be...Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Jean Harlow, Kim Novak.....so many poeple had short hair! If your talking VERY short hair look for photos of Leslie Caron or Shirley MaClaine.
There are also fingerwave styles and pin curl styles that can be done.
A great site for photos of period styles from the 20's-60's is www.moviemaidens.com
Same here Missy, In fact my best friend slash person who is my most returned model I have problems with her hair, its not even close to her shoulders its unbeleivebly stubborn straight as a board uneven hair cut hair! I try but it never is what I try to go for! I do the makeup and hair of all my models too. I havent come across hair that was completely unable to be styled, but I am sure itd be frustrating

Half wigs are my favorite too! I agree with Stephanie...the Leslie Caron, Liz Taylor, and Shirley McLaine styles are inspirational...but they can make some people look old, so be careful!

Learn how to do finger waves.
Finger waves rock, and once you get the hang of them...they are pretty easy to do!

P.S. Moving this thread to the Powder Room. :)
Do it! You'll learn SO much!!!!

Pin Curls, are super fun and super easy. They can brushed out into many styles. They're perfect for short hair. Hmm... perhaps you want to check into the Pin-ups Hair Design Cosmo Lounge for a lesson or two!

I'd have to agree with the gals here finger waves and pin curls work best. If a wig is out of the question how about a weave aka hair extensions?? apply one near the bottom (to add some length) curl it and use the short hair to add some curly layers? that's just my opinion.
Barrel curl's are cute. The easiest way I can explain it is a pin curl that is standing up on the base. When I had very short hair I would do them with some stiff hairspray and a curling iron. You can brush them out a little after. Think kind Marilyn Monroe esque.

Hey Missy!
I think Doris Mayday works her short hair fabulously... she usually does one big roll in the frong and the rest is curled with a bug curling iron... She works the look without it aging her.
Hope that helps!!! BTW___ The half wigs are great.. I am NOW a believer! Thanks!
