"We Are The New Vintage"
Do you think it matters that me and other models like me aren't 'traditional' pin-up? The majority of my pictures aren't really pin-up at all, they are pin-up inspired, whether it be because of my hairstyle or my pose or the fact that I'm wearing fully fashioned stockings.
Does it annoy you when people who don't really live the Pin-Up Lifestyle at all, list themselves alongside classic pin-ups?
I often feel like certain people in the 'industry' look down on me because I don't wear full skirts and because I listen to Korn and because I wear more modern clothes, and I'm not really a classic pin-up at all.
What're your thoughts?

I think you have an eclectic look, there are certainly some of your pics i would say were more towards the traditional pinup style, but some that are more moden rockabilly.
I dont think anyone has the right to look down on you for you individuality, everyone takes what they want from vintage/pinup.
I love pinup but for me its not practical in everyday life, plus it can be a complete pain staking task keeping ontop of it.
I have bangs, because victory rolls dont suit me, i pin my hair up and rock the land girl look, i wear my 12 h*** Dc Martins with a pencil skirt but chuck on a Clash Tshirt for comfort.
Pinup is an amazing style but not always practical, plus in this day and age we are totaly differnt shapes. On average we are 2 dress sizes bigger, have bigger chests and feet.
Whats the point in trying to emulate the exact same look as the 40s or 50s, thats not who we are now, we each have to bring abit of ourselves into it and since there is so many gineric looks whats wrong with actualy trying to be individual.
I think you look beautiful as you are, and if anything your portfolio only shows how diverse your look can be, Agencies/photographers look for that in people.
Sod the industry, it just shows how closed minded they can be.
Be good, stay safe, keep smiling xx
I love anything alternative and taking classics and adding a twist! So Rock on Lady!!! Classic is amazing but we are in modern times and there are as many kinds of "Pin-Up" as there are music!
Pshaw. If anyone is trying to pinhole someone into a tight little category then they are more flawed than they realize. No one person can or should be pinholed into any single category.
I don't feel I'm extremely traditional in pinup aesthetic. I do have a lot of the traditional aesthetic but I mix in my punk rock edge into it. I'm a punk rock girl at heart. I'm not a fan of the overly feminine when it comes to my own personal style. From time to time I can rock it but it depends on the look.
Usually I'm in a pair of skinny jeans, chucks, fitted band tee and a wallet with chain. I don't carry purses and don't primp constantly. If I'm at college I keep the makeup basic: high arched brows, black mascara, and gloss or a bright lip.
Diversity is a good thing. It keeps others on their toes and the competition fresh! Nothing wrong with being creative. :)
Well Said Ellie! I agree and relate!
I have my retro style days and I have my modern jeans and tee days. I've seen people who do the vintage look from head to toe do a complete 180 and dress more modern because they got tired of it. You should always do what feels good. I like jazz but I don't listen to it 24/7 same goes for pinup/vintage style. I think we're all well rounded folks here and that's more important than anything! :)
I call myself a photographer but I don't sleep with my camera.
I don't think it matters at all.

I'm in the same boat you are. I'm not a model and I'm certainly not dressed to the nines 24/7. But I do like to sport my rockabilly threads when I go to a bar or a car show, and when I get the chance, I'll go full-on pinup mode for a special photo shoot. Do I live the pinup lifestyle all the time? No, but even Elvgren's girls had a day off. :)
I think to each their own. I live a lifestyle that I am comfortable with. Whatever you choose to label yourself as is just that a label. I have a closet full of clothes inspired and bought from the 40's to 50's that I wear but when I am with my family I wear clothing I chase my 4 year old in. I prefer classic pinup personally and that is what I wear where when I am out and about without kids.
There are a lot of different takes on what is considered pinup and what is not. I have seen where people get belligerent and almost hostile when an individual submits a photo that is not "classic" pinup. Each person and photographers idea of pinup is not the same and it should be seen as such.
I would not look down on you for not living the life. I would hope that you are happy in the life you have chosen to live and would like to think you would wish the same for me.
I personally live and breathe the pinup look and style. However, as a model, just because you shoot it does not mean you have to wear it. You can enjoy something but not immerse yourself!! Fashion models do not walk around in couture dresses. Just be you and those that look down on you are the ones that are not comfortable being them. <3
