Hello.  I am wanting to be comfortable and dress as my usual self for a Halloween party.  I just want to kick it up a notch and be more "pinup" like.  I just don't know how to make it work for the crowd to "get it" in the way that it is a pinup look rather than an just another period look.  Any suggestions?  I originally was thinking to wear a vintage swimsuit w/stockings but my friends think the crowd won't understand what I am going for.  Idk.  I think they would. :)  I have lots to choose from; wiggle dresses, swing dresses, sailor shorts and lots of polka dot shirts.  Mind you I am going to a party winery where the crowd is much more conservative crowd than what I am used to.  But that isn't going to scare me away from a bit of sexy. Thanks.

Thanks everyone for the ideas!  There are so many good suggestions.  I really like the idea of a Femme Fatale. Very sexy but not throwing it all out there, which is what being a sexy lady was all about in those days, as well as in pinups.  Also the idea of sailor shorts, a shirt and tight sweater buttoned only at the top sounds super cute.

The hair and makeup will for SURE be rockin', complete w/victory rolls.  You can't miss "the look" of that era when you have victory rolls.

Guess I will be busy this weekend trying to piece it all together.  I will post pics after the party.

She couldn't have said it better!! :) I would go with the easiest, which is a sailor look. I'd recommend rolling your hair, maybe find a few videos on retro hairstyles on YouTube too! Definitely perfect your winged liner and red lip which is key to having that perfect pin up look!

do you dress in period style around your friends often? if not then, we have a better place to start. if so, your going to have to go in a direction they will not perceive as you not dressing up(costume) for their party or just being extra cute. what do you mean by "dressing up as your usual self"?

If you dress vintage alot, then i suggest you go with a more "costume" pin up look. a sailor costume or house wife look(which seems more comfy to me) .

If you dont and wish to go pinup , just go all out, wear the dress you feel the best in, make sure your hair is in coiffed style, and your winged liner and red lips are perfection.

 hope i helped.
