What is the typical turnaround time between the shoot, seeing proofs, edited photos, and ultimately receiving the final product?  Of course I know all photgraphers are different, so this is a general question for them and models.  I have a desire to work to build my portfolio, but it seems as though it will take forever just to get a handful of shots.  Any favorite photographers in the Houston Area?

Thanks!

Well you pegged it, it is different for everyone. If you are paying for the photos I would expect a relatively short turn around time but if TFCD then you are probably at the mercy of the photographer. Not much help I know!

I have experienced total wait time from 1 week to almost 2 months.  It depends on the photographer's work load /schedule.  Everyone I've shot with has kept in touch and let me know the status, which I appreciate.  I ask what their normal turnaround time is before I shoot with them so I know what to expect.

Ask before you shoot-- find out how many to expect, and when to expect them.  --What you can expect as far as their size/quality and if there will be watermarks and how you can use them.

As for our shoots, generally, the prettiest girl in the world is the one we just shot, and I know I can't wait to see the results and share them with her.  When I shoot, wait time is usually a day or so.

Like you said, it's different for everybody. I've had as much as 3-4 months wait time for the pros, & as little as next day or less than a week for the TFP.

Thanks for the input and I am glad I just need to be patient.  :)  Part of me wants to go ahead and try another shoot very soon, but then again I would like to see the final product and get some reactions so I know what to change.  I would hate to get them in and wonder why I committed the same silly mistake again.

A day or two is fantastic!  Seems like a good way to have your models really promote you.  I find it is a lot easier to recommend something if I am still excited about it, so to get the photos within a couple days would be a great way to encourage others to check out that photographer.

What I've experienced most often is about a 6 week wait. The Trousseau is right, finding out before the shoot is a great idea. You'll know what to expect and you can hold them accountable if your images are super late.
Some of us have different motivations, though.  For me, I make money with the pictures.  I can't sell a dress if it isn't pictured, so the longer those pictures sit on a hard drive, the less I make.  I think if I were modeling and paying for the pictures, I would only give the last payment after I saw the result.  I mean, what is the motivation for speed if they have all the money they will make from you?
Good point. Too bad there isn't that option generally given.
Clarifying expectations goes a long way between models and photographers. I don't do tfp but my clients see proof images in a couple of days. Finished images are done in 3 - 4 weeks.
I always produce a fast turnaround. I feel it is important for me to get the photos to the girls or guys as quick as possible and also I am just so excited and obsessive about getting them done that I will work nonstop until they are done! I always post teasers on Facebook by the end of day after any shoot and deliver the finished shoot gallery (completely processed) within 48 hours max.  I know the girls are continually checking and waiting and I'm dying to see what they think!
I attempt to get unedited proofs on line within 24 hours, then usually 4 or 5 edited shots within a week, and the balance within 2-3 weeks.  But as many have said, it depends on work load and how fast images are selected by the model/client.
