"We Are The New Vintage"
This may be an off topic post or maybe not. If so sorry about that.
For those Dolls not yet in the know, I have Very Recently started my look/lifestyle with the pin up look. At first I focused on the hair and make up... easy enough to do, then I ended up a bit stymied where the clothes were concerned so I posted a help request in this very same thread and got a ton of advice and support. Now though I have realized something, while the clothes are great/awesome/wonderful and admittedly to die for, what you wear doesn't matter nearly as much as "HOW" you wear it. You can be wearing the most perfect dress from the 40's, 50's or whenever but if your in a down attitude or a generally negative attitude it won't matter a fig. The clothes, the accessories, even the hair and make up just "don't mean a thing if you don't got that swing". Its really all about your attitude and your love of yourself and the body your in that Really makes it Pin Up.
At least this is the lesson I learned!

This is interesting because for the longest time, I have felt uncomfortable in the clothes I wore that I bought from department stores and high fashion boutiques. I spent so much money on the trends since I was in highschool. Never did I ever feel like myself. Only until I started wearing my moms old clothes she wore from 30+ years ago did I start to get into wearing vintage clothes. They fit my body better than I ever imagined! Growing up I never had much confidence. Even as recently as last year, when I was wearing the skinny jeans and the all trends, I felt like a fake. I felt like it wasnt me coming through. I agree with you 100 percent, you cant just WEAR something. Because if you cant pull it off, then there is no point.
When I realized that I wasnt happy with the fashionable clothing thats in todays magazines and tv, I just knew that I have always felt more comfortable with how my body felt and looked in pinup/vintage clothing. The way it clinches in my waist, how it exaggerates my behind lol, even to how my hair and makeup can make me look like,....it just all gives me the self esteem I was always told that I was weird for wanting because it isnt 'mainstream' or whatever is in fashion. But I know now that I'm not alone, and not only that, but there are so many different styles to pinup. I'm kinda in the same boat as you, I have just started to get into pin-up whole-heatedly. For me though, its been a slow process stemming from a couple of years ago in high school till now.
It really is all about your attitude, because some people are out there that will look at you and wont get it, or that wish they could do it too. And you really have to have the self esteem and attitude that this lifestyle is really who you are.
Hi Ms. Diira!
You are so right! I am delighted that you've discovered this solution to your search! I've always enjoyed the look and fit of old clothing styles. I believe that modern fashion is sorely lacking in so many ways, and returning to the looks of the mid 20th Century is a lovely thing! Men and women were so gorgeous when they cared about how they dressed. Yes, hair, makeup, and wardrobe is an effort, but look how it makes you feel! I think you have lots of us who can identify with your post. Pinup is going to be the new Black!
All of the comments are also one of the main reasons I am so glad to have found this site! I looked at a few others before finding this one and unfortunately it seemed there was a lot of catty behavior. If you have a question, or problem you get answers from all over. It seems to me that those of us on this site truly embody the ideals of where the style came from. It is a style that embodies the feminine, and the current fashions seem as though they want to downplay or hide that. To do justice to the current fashion you have to go back to Twiggy. I like having curves, and now that I am picking clothes that accentuate that not only is my confidence the highest its ever been but my attitude is better as well. I enjoy myself and who I am, now more than ever!I love hearing the positive stories from everyone!
Thanks Dolls!

Unlike some fashion trends (think polyester, leather fringe, fluorescents, and crop tops), pin-up is pretty much the embodiment of timeless, classic, feminine fashion. And as mentioned previously, it can be flattering for any body type.
