Can a girl with black skin be a pin up?

Hi Ladies! I'm new here and I want to ask a question I had in my mind since I discovered pin up. I looked some discussions and I didn't find something explaining this, and If this isn't in the right place I'm sorry :(

 

My question is: Can a black girl be a pin up? A lot of people told me this cannot be possible because every pin up girl has white skin, and the make up they wear is special for that skin.

*ADMIN NOTE: Ladies cool it and keep it civil, educate don't hate. We didn't build this worldwide colorless community for anyone to think they CAN'T be a pinup. It exists to show that ANYONE can and that the style is represented worldwide without boundaries.

of course you can. all woman of any color and any size can be pi-up! its the attitude, grace and being a proud sexy woman. if anyone states that a woman of any other color but white cant be pin-up has to take a look in the mirror because their may be other issues they need to be dealing with.

It is part of the topic to discuss race. Her question was 'Can a black girl be a pin up?'. It is hardly possible to discuss this without there being some negative comments. The question alone is depressing. If you are so bothered by the discussion then just pull the plug already please. This discussion could easily be really nasty and it's not. I've seen far worse and last I checked it is a constitutional right to speak your mind regardless of whether or not even the President agrees. I can respect another point of view and take into consideration that in spite of it all someone might learn something. Not everyone knows how to just ask the right questions so sometimes challenging others by commenting with what they know is the only way for them to learn. I  personally prefer not to offend but honestly if you are really not happy with the non la la land discussion then wield your power and wave your wand and poof it will be gone!

Yes, it is part of this topic to discuss race, however, it is not ok to be racist. We love the positivity of this thread, and have already spent quite a bit of time trimming it down so that it is nice again. We do a lot of work that you don't always get to see, so please know that our comments are always for a reason. We are not bothered by the discussion, quite the opposite, that's why we want to keep it open. However, as the ones who run this site, it is our job to make sure everyone here feels safe.

 

We did wave our wands, and we made this a nice place to be again. That is our job.

I saw a few new comments questioning the existence of black pinups in the 50's and 60's. Yes, they existed. wow I missed any negative comments but makes me sad to think there were ANY,,,

It would completely baffle my brain to think ANY one would think pin up only belongs to pale skin people- when hire my models I make SURE that every kind of woman is represented

When pin up first came about I'm pretty sure colored women weren't privileged enough to be in pin up but things have changed! We are currently in 2011 where pin up models come in all shapes, sizes, and colors! I believe you should listen to your heart and not people for your heart will never fail you. I'm 4'11, and black with curly hair and I proudly consider myself a pin up doll!...no matter what anyone says!

Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm sorry to say that because of a few people this thread took a turn to the negative, and even after being asked to please bring it back to the positive, numerous times, it was not. Unfortunately that means we will have to close this thread, but I wanted to say thank you to everyone who took the time to add educational and enlightening posts. I hope that this thread can be used in the future to show girls that anyone can be a pin up, no matter what small minded people may tell them.

 

I said it once and I'll say it again, being in a community where so many people can come together and have such a powerful outpouring of positivity is inspiring, and I feel very lucky to be a part of it.
