Hi all,

Model Mayhem was suggested to me by an awesome gal who is also an alt. model and I was wondering if y'all find it to be a good and safe site. I appreciate any feedback. Rock 'N Roll, Hellz

Hey, PinupMama! I "joined" and my profile is in the approval queue still. However, I browsed around and you do have to be very careful! Damona-Art's MM is beautiful and she clearly knows the biz! I looked around in my area and well, yes, there were some let's just say "interesting" portfolios. I saw a lot of gals who marked NO on nudes and when you look at their portfolio, there they are butt nekkid! If you want to be naked, that is your choice, but warn a gal first LOL! I would NEVER let my 18 year old join the site without my consent. Not that I have an 18 year old, but if I did, by gosh, they best run it past me first! I can see where this site has the potential to be very sleazy. My boyfriend is less than enthusiastic about the site, but one of my favorite photogs works through MM so he knows that there are good people on there. He was also, as was I, disappointed in the layout and we both agreed that this site has such an incredibly sleek, stylish, professional feel that MM does not. I will wait and see what, if anything happens with the site and give all y'all updates! Thanks!!!
Yep, saw a whole lotta nekkidness! Basically, I just want to check the site out as I live close to several large cities and my town is a bit podunk, which I love! I can go to the big cities any dang time I want and come home to my peaceful place! I know where my talents lay and it's definitely NOT in nudes! I love rockabilly and cheesecake. I'm always called cute and sexy on me equals spaz! I think you are very correct in your summation of their forums! It's one big ol cat fight after another that must leave hairballs of hatred everywhere! I know I have not reached my peak, but I'm working on it! I practice posing, facial expressions, and am getting a fine wardrobe in order. I think it's important to enjoy your art and not seek fame. I'm delighted with this site and have found such beauty on it!

If you only want to do paid work put that in your profile, otherwise you will get lots of offers for TFP. I would also mention that most of the models that have "paid work only" in their portfolios, also have nudes in their portfolios. I'm not saying that's the only paid work available on MM, but it is a great place for models that are willing to pose nude to get gigs, because you can actually post nude photos there. Take this with a grain of salt. I'm a photographer, that's just what I've seen on MM in my area, and I don't generally shoot nudes.

I don't know about the photographers, but there's a lot of models on MM, at least in my area, that dont' seem to actually model.

They keep a profile up, and have regular "last activity" but none of their pictures are less than two years old. I think they just like to look at photos, maybe chat on the forums or something.

My advice is to stay away from the forums. I think this is generally well know that the forums are overly critical, and the regulars do not take kindly to differing view points. They don't offer, IMO, constructive criticism, but just negative criticism.

I'm not saying that because I've been criticized. I've taken my own advice, and not posted much on the forums or asked for criticism. I'm saying that after reading comments about other photographers or models work.

If you ask for criticism, someone will tell you to give up photography or modeling because you're just not cut out for it. And that someone will not be the hottest model, or the photographer with the bad ass portfolio, just someone with a few average looking photos in their port, and an opinion.

Honestly I dont get a good vibe from it. After checking it out it seemed like its for young girls to get attention and men to give it to them.....thats just my opinion. It would be nice if they could set up something like that here bc I agree this site has a warm fuzzy feeling to it. Everyone is really nice, pleasant, and supportive no matter if they are a plus size pin up or an older one..I love it! Def keep us posted though. :)

Professional modeling is a young girl's gig-- there is no getting around that.  And for the most part, it is not really accepting of all kinds of beauty.  Most of the people on MM understand that.  It is also a cut throat business and not the best place for most people because it is focused on one layer of beauty only and it has the potential to damage people.  MM isn't a social networking site, it is a place to find people to work with.  There is little that is warm and fuzzy because people are there to work, not relax.

If one wants to make money on modeling, say, more than gas money, one either has to get naked, or be 15, or be very experienced.  It is very rare for someone to start making money in modeling outside of that.  Maybe a few, sure, but there was only one Spud Webb

Model for fun, learn the craft, learn the business-- maybe it will take you somewhere, but the most important thing should be to have some fun at it.

+1 !

I'm not looking to be a super star! I just know that I can probably get a few catalog(look a Sears bra!)shoots and make a few bucks. I've done commercials where I've gotten $50 for 10 minutes of work and someone else did my hair and makeup LOL...yeah, I'm not a star, but I do love modeling and if someone wants to add cash to the gig, I'm not gonna turn it down! However, the clothes stay on!
