Hi all,

Model Mayhem was suggested to me by an awesome gal who is also an alt. model and I was wondering if y'all find it to be a good and safe site. I appreciate any feedback. Rock 'N Roll, Hellz

I have wondered the same thing...great question!
There's no real screening, so though it's a good place to list, I'd suggest taking the usual precautions until you know who you're shooting with. Good luck and have fun!

Hello,

Oh yes it's a fantastic site. I got to know a lot of wonderful people and the photos on the site are also very good and a nice inspiration. I must say that my "model-photography" carriere started at Modelmayhem since 2009.

A lot of pin up photographers and models are members too with MM. so i would say : Join please ;-)

This is My profile

Much greetings,

Rosita

It's a good resource to list in. But, as with any internet site, please be careful of what you post, and be sure to really check out anyone who wants to shoot with you.

Good luck! :)

Thanks so much for all the feedback! Y'all are awesome! I'm going to join and work my tail feathers off to keep on keepin on! I'm hoping to have my short film available soon. I was a lead character in a web series called The Social Media Massacre-X Marks the Spot! It's an anthology and they are looking to make a feature film so I need all the material I can to put into my portfolio! I'm loving all the beauty on this site!

It's a good site in the fact that you see all.  Let me try to explain this.  It has stuff you will like and dislike.  Don't consider the site all bad due to what you dislike with a few photos.  Look everything over and make your choices.  One thing I do with the site is pick and choose my friends on it.  Most of them are ones in my area that I might be doing work with.  I'm not adding anyone as a friend that is 1000 miles away.  I do it here because this is different site.  I usually pick friends with in my region up to 100 miles.

Each model and photographer profile has information on the individual.  You can also check their photos and look at who they have worked with.

Look it over, try it out.  Tell me what you think.

Thank you for the tips! I agree. I don't want to waste anyone's time by being buddies with someone I could never realistically shoot with. I'm pretty good at picking up on the creepy guy who just wants to see me nekkid vibe! I will always have my man by my side during the shoot. I enjoy this site immensely due to the diversity of beauty. I love getting ideas about posing, makeup, hair and such. I'm not even looking to get paid, but hey, if someone wants to pay me, I'm not gonna turn it down. I just plain love modeling and pinup makes me feel at home!

I was wondering the same thing, thanks for asking this.  I will probably start a profile too :)

ModelMayhem is the gateway site.  On it you will find all the characters; the pros, the deluded, the GWCs, the girls that used to be pro, but now just do it for fun, and completely predatory.  Think of it like a medium sized pond, the really big fish might not be there, but some use it for the hop into more lucrative waters.

If you hop into the pond, remember a few things:

First, anyone can join.  Anyone can say they are a photographer and anyone can buy a digital camera.  Learn your trade-- it will keep many of the creeps out.

You will be a the new girl.  There is a search function for newbies and you will 'popular', that is, until the next set of newbs come along.

You will be a little fish in a big pond.  If you can swim with the big guys, great, but if that intimidates you, then you won't like it.

Boyfriends aren't always a popular companion.  If yours keeps his mouth shut and doesn't interfere, then he is a great one to take to a shoot.  If he feels the need to comment on the photographer's work, you might want to find a different companion for the shoot.

People expect professional behavior.  Don't ask if your friend can model.  Be on time.  Don't ask for more pictures than what you are given, unless it is agreed upon first.  Read the contract.  Ask questions.  Respond politely to emails.  Know what you will, and will not do.  Be on time.  Ask what they want you to bring, and for goodness sake, don't wear black undies unless they tell you to and get a manicure and pedicure.  Seriously.  No black polish. Assume that most guys want more than you are willing to give, until you figure out that they don't.

We have worked with lots of woman from MM.  Most have been great.  Some have ruined shoots.  The ones who ruin the shoot with arrogance will never be asked back again. We have heard amusing stories, and we have heard horror stories about photographers.  Mostly good, but still, go into it with the realization that anyone can join.

Good luck and best wishes.

This about sums it up! I recently joined as well, since a few of the photographers I have already worked with are on there, and I treat it as a 'specialized craigslist'. Just make sure to check out who you are going to be working with, and take someone with you. I don't meet new photographers without an 'escort' anyway. :/ Too risky in this day and age. :)

That being said, good luck! If you want to add me #2256515 :)

I'm still debating joining...I thought it was for paid work? But like you I wouldnt mind getting paid although at this point I just want the practice...i just love doing it kwim? Let me know how it goes for you :)

If you only want to do paid work put that in your profile, otherwise you will get lots of offers for TFP. I would also mention that most of the models that have "paid work only" in their portfolios, also have nudes in their portfolios. I'm not saying that's the only paid work available on MM, but it is a great place for models that are willing to pose nude to get gigs, because you can actually post nude photos there. Take this with a grain of salt. I'm a photographer, that's just what I've seen on MM in my area, and I don't generally shoot nudes.

I don't know about the photographers, but there's a lot of models on MM, at least in my area, that dont' seem to actually model.

They keep a profile up, and have regular "last activity" but none of their pictures are less than two years old. I think they just like to look at photos, maybe chat on the forums or something.

My advice is to stay away from the forums. I think this is generally well know that the forums are overly critical, and the regulars do not take kindly to differing view points. They don't offer, IMO, constructive criticism, but just negative criticism.

I'm not saying that because I've been criticized. I've taken my own advice, and not posted much on the forums or asked for criticism. I'm saying that after reading comments about other photographers or models work.

If you ask for criticism, someone will tell you to give up photography or modeling because you're just not cut out for it. And that someone will not be the hottest model, or the photographer with the bad ass portfolio, just someone with a few average looking photos in their port, and an opinion.
