Hi Mindi, if you have fair skin, then you would suit cool blue based shades, such as cranberry or wine. Blue-based reds flatter women with pinker, rosier skin tones. Try MAC’s Russian Red, it’s just the perfect pinup red.
Ladies who have golden, peach or tan tones in their skin would suit more warm orange-based shades such as brick red. Hope that helps you doll xxHi! I just wanted to add that I have very fair skin and not alot of money to spend on lipstick to find the right color...so i have a video all about it if your interested in watching , heres my link
Thank You..This helps as I do not have alot of money either and am just amazed at the prices of lipstick. Everyone has been great and I have received a ton of helpful hints.
Thank You
Mindi

Mindi, I typically mix MAC's Russian Red and Diva to get just the right color for me, but it's a bit of a pain and so I recently ordered the Sample Set from Bésame (http://www.besamecosmetics.com/products.cfm/Sampler-Sets/pID-19) and I'm so glad that I did! SIX different reds to try for a very reasonable $8, which includes shipping (and a 20% off your next order coupon). The set description says each sample is enough for 4 applications, but I think they're covering their butts with that one. I've already used the Cherry three times and it still looks barely touched! It's an excellent way to try different reds, and to see how the colors wear over the course of a day. I can't recommend it enough!
Try not to think about lipstick being only one layer. If you can figure out if the lipstick is too cool, use a warm liner on the entire lip. And vice versa if you think it's too warm. Use a cool liner. Lining the whole lip prior to using lipstick really helps it stay. On photo shoots, we line with a complimentary red, then go over that with a red lipstick, and follow up with a gloss. Again, you can cool things down or warm them up in the gloss step too.
Another thing to think about: Our clients constantly tell us that they thought they couldn't wear red. Even when you find a great shade, it's so bold that it takes time to get used to seeing your lips pop out like that. ;)
Good luck, you've gotten awesome advice from these talented ladies.
Ah! I just found the perfect thing today (I've been searching for FOREVER) and posted a discussion on it!
Such perfect timing! Maybe this is another option for you (and CHEAP)!!!
