This may be a stupid question but is there any way you can make your hair grow faster? I take vitamin supplements an whatever but I was wondering if there are any 'old wives' tales of how to make your hair better. Does anyone have any secret age old family secrets they can offer??

Scalp massage and fish oil. Those are the two things that I truly beleave help. I'm not sure how much the really fo, but both are good for you (and scalp massages feel do good), so they can't hurt.
A friend and I have been taking a vitamin called Biotin, 1000mg, each day. It truly has helped our hair grow! I swear by it. Great for nails and hair growth. You can find it at any Target, Walmart, Rite Aid, Walgreens..etc. Hope that helps.
sweet!! thanks ladies!! xx
There is such a thing called scientific brushing that works. Learned it in beauty school and have tried it on myself. Tried to find you a video link because it's hard to explain in type, but so far all I have found are tooth brushing videos. UGH. It's a way of massaging stimulating your scalp with a brush. You start out by brushing around the edges of your hairline, brush all the way around turning your wrist outward away from your head with each stroke, go all the way around your hairline until you reach the starting point again. Repeat around hairline about 5 times. Part your hair into 4 sections (like you do when you color your hair) and repeat the brushing motion around the perimeter of each section. Then a nice scalp massage while shampooing then conditioning. This is meant to stimulate the scalp and should not be done before a color treatment. Also it can be time consuming so not an every day activity. But it DOES work! I do it once a week. Trying to grow out the short cut I got  awhile back. Hope that made some sense. It's easier to show it in person.
GAH!! You should teach us all by recording it!!!! Overlord of the hair-brushing!!!

I second the fish oil and biotin. I started taking fish oil to help my depression and I've noticed that my skin, hair and nails are healthier looking, and my hair is shinier.

You can take more biotin than the recommended dosage as well....I take 7500 mcg a day. Try to find the liquid caps, they absorb better. I use a brand called Nature Made, they are almost always buy one get one free at Walgreens. Once the biotin builds up in your system you are gonna notice how fast your hair is growing. It also helps your nails to grow stronger.

Other things you can do are use a boar bristle brush and brush in long strokes from your scalp to ends. The boar bristles stimulate the natural scalp oils and will help your hair be stronger.

Try to wash as least as possible, and use a clarifying shampoo every now and then to get rid of build up.

Cut down using heat tools as much as possible, and get your ends trimmed every 4-6 weeks.

Good luck!

If you color your hair clarifying shampoo will fade your color. Just FYI
If you dye and still want to use clarifying shampoo just do it the day before you dye, or a few days leading up to it. That way even if it fades it's ok.

I'm glad you posted this because I'm trying to grow my hair out, too!  I've been taking Biotin for about a month and I can tell by my bangs that my hair is growing, but I'm not sure if it's growing any faster than usual.  :)  I started taking fish oil a couple of weeks ago, too, because my doctor told me it will help lower my cholesterol.   If it helps my hair grow, that would be a lovely bonus!
