Why do people think women can only be big or extremely small?!?

I've been talking about this on a few other sites and pages and I thought I would bring it up here. Not to sound like agrouch , but I get annoyed when people call me full figured, plump, etc. Seriously? I'm a size 4. How am I "proving that you don't have to be skinny to be beautiful"? All my photos on various sites have comments like that and although it seems to be meant as a compliment, I'm like dude, I'm not an Olsen twin, but I'm not a big girl either...What's wrong with just being in between? There are so many beautiful ladies that are ACTUALLY full figured, I'm not sure how I made it into that category. It seems as out of nowhere as when people try to say that I'm tiny. I'm not. I'm an average height, average weight, average BMI, average body fat...

I love full figured beauties, but I am not one. Just like I love skinny girls, but I am not one of those either. It's just so obnoxious that people want to put everyone in one extreme or the other. I'm not trying to whine, offend, or fish for compliments, but I can't help but wonder: does any one else notice this? Everyone on this site has put themselves 'out there' in terms of photographs of our bodies, have you received strange or similar reactions and comments? Maybe these people just don't know anything about photography or about women for that matter.

You look small to me. Right, not bone skinny but you are still slim.
I guess maybe it's a pinup thing. People see a girl in a picture and assume they should have a high fashion look rather than a pinup look.

I was thinking about this topic the other day. Even in movies if you notice, everyone must be a size 0, or a size 2 at the most.

I think the world is more accepting of normal looking bodies or at least bodies with noticable curves...women like beyonce, scarlett johanssen, adele, halle berry, etc etc are pushing the idea of what size is. I think that is what attracts a lot of women to pinup, its where you tend to find women who look more like you then anywhere else. By no mean am I saying that women like Tyra Banks or Gisele arent beautiful..to me they are, but I'm not 6ft and90 pounds...however, I can relate to pinup and classic hollywood, becuase thats what I look like. A normal woman of average hieght, with hips ass and tatas.

So I think closed minded people think you have to be big and small, I feel people of real substance and value can appreciate a size 0 like a size 6 like a size 14..beauty only goes so far, at some point you have to open your mouth and speak

Im not completely not skinny, but Im not plus sized either. Im just regular sized. I do consider myself to be full figured, because well, I DO have a nice full figure!
But I do get comments all the time on how I dont have to be skinny to be beautiful. Uh.. thanks. I guess. And I do get alittle offended when people refer to me as "plus sized"
Last time I checked a size 8 was not plus sized.

Im healthy. thanks.
Very true!

Giselle Bundchen, Halle Berry and Scarlett Johanssen are all size 4.

And you think Tyra Banks is thin?  Oh my aren't you in for a surprise.  Tyra Banks is a size 12-14!

As a guy I don't know how to write a comment on this without sounding creepy or "stalker"... this is my fifth attempt...there is NOTHING wrong with your body, in fact, you have the kind of figure I prefer. Neither overweight, underweight, or bizarre. Simply a woman's preferable figure, with the curves in all the right places. I hope that is some kind of reassurance to you that despite what modern media might expect, normal guys still want real women.

You are so right on with this post! I'm 5'4 and a size 4-6 clothes.By far not a size 2,but not a size 12 either!

And it seems with a lot of modeling, you either have to be one or the other.Tall and skinny or  a size 12 or over to do plus size modeling. What about the rest of us? We certainly represent a number of women who fit our proportions.I have been thinking this for a while, and I'm just glad to see others who feel the same

you are absolutely not full figured...your actually  skinny in my opinion. *I hope that doesn't offend

I get this all the time too. People confuse having an hourglass figure, with being full figured or "thick".

I had someone call me thick a few weeks ago. I'm 5'5 and 34-25-36, I'm hardly thick and like you, I'm a size 4.

Ha! Those are my measurements too! It's odd to hear but I had a feeling I wasn't the only one hearing this. Maybe people are just confused on what the terms "thick" and "full-figured" mean?
