I love seeing the difference between how people dress nowadays and how they dressed back in the day. We have the thread about how everyday people dressed, http://www.pinuplifestyle.com/forum/topics/everyday-people-of-the-4..., but this article I found got me thinking about how people dressed when they were going places that we still go today.

I think it's amazing (and kind of sad) that we are going the same places they did, but the way we dress has drastically changed, and most of the time, not for the better.

So post up your then and now shots, and who knows, maybe if people see this thread, it will inspire them to dress a little nicer when they go out.

I love the way dressing back then was classy and looking decent was was part of everyday life. It seems that after alot of liberations were gained thats when things went down hill with the way society dressed. Having the freedoms we have now were alot different back then which is why woman had to find ways to look sexy without being obvious *wink*. Now woman can walk out of the house half naked with her ass cheeks hanging out and its o.k. because its accepted in society. Love my freedom but wish people still had that old school spirit, especially the youth, to want to look presentable in public in a cleaner more wholesome way.
Totally agree with you. I have a one year old and theres no way in hell I can look smoking hot and made up 24/7. hahaha. But when I go out its a different story:)

I understand the importance of dressing properly, and I will most of the time. I will admit I wear yoga pants, tees and crocs to walmart or when walking my dogs; no make up no hair products. I may not look as classy, but I am coordinated and clean. I am not going to waste precious time and beauty/hair products on simple tasks in my very busy life. Furthermore, I prefer to wear my vintage clothing lightly, and not risk it getting damaged. I am a dancer at night, and a pinup model 2 to 6 days a week. I feel i need to give my hair, face and joints a rest. I just felt I should share this. not all people that wear crocs and flip flops are slobs.
I love this thread! I will have to find some good pics... hmm.

Great disscusion Roxy, and yes it makes me sad too the way people dress these days. Thing is that when my husband and I are out and about we are always stopped by random people to say we look great. But I cant help but wonder (quietly) if they like our look so much then why did they walk out of the house looking like that?

Is it just because of laziness? Do they really not know how to dress well anymore? Are they waiting untill they are the 'perfect' size and shape as told to them by their TVs so untill then there is no point making any effort? Or because there is no longer any 'need' to dress well as there is no longer an expected universal standard of dress, so again why bother?

Probably a bit of all of that.

My mother raised me to believe that there is no such thing as an ugly woman just a lazy one, and would never have let me out of the house as a child looking a mess!

But then the standards she held me too were lower than that of her mother to her when she was a child.

I don't like it but there it is. The comment before about 'sports wear' is totally true. And I know I could not bear to go outside in what I wear to work out (don't much like being inside in it) but that doesn't mean I have to wear vintage all the time. You can look smart and presentable and feminine without actual vintage clothing so there is no excuse. I guess its the idea that dressing well is something to be kept for special occasions and the rest of the time doesnt matter thats the problem.....well I say every day of your life matters no matter what!

i think is very sad the people of today how they choose clothes...
but this images of "today" that you upload are... horrible!!

Here's my grandparent's wedding pics from 1947:

And nowadays:

My computer crashed before I could make the correction to my picture post- my grandparents wedding was in 1957 not 1947.

It annoys me to no end when I go to the store and see people in their slippers and supper messy hair. You dont have to be dressed to the nines but at least put on some shoes and comb your hair.

Those "today" pictures are awful.

I will say, however, that I cannot wear a dress to an amusement park. I love roller coasters and that would just be obscene. :) There is a way to look nice without wearing a dress though.

I also love my Birkenstocks. I don't wear them in public, but sometimes my feet need a break.

I wear dresses to amusement parks all the time. I also wear petticoats and espadrilles. You can do it without being obscene, just be sure to wear tap pants or petti pants underneath.

Here's a few pix from my last trips to Disneyland and Disney World.

And you look beautiful! It's probably just me, but I just prefer pants in that situation. Must be the tomboy in me.

I blame the counter culture of the 60's. :-)
