"We Are The New Vintage"
Hi guys, I'm currently working on a project for my Graphic Design Branding course, and I was wondering if you all could give me your opinions. I'm trying to create a logo (and eventually packaging, website, and marketing campaign) for a Rockabilly-inspired cosmetics line. As of now my plan is to have the line include makeup, hair care, and skin care.
Anyway, I want the packaging to be in the neo-traditional tattoo style. Anchors, swallows, sugarskulls, etc etc. I've come up with two (rough) logo concepts, but I can't decide which one I prefer:
Currently, my favorite is the Vintage Vixen logo, because it really has the "tattoo" style that I'm likely incorporating into the packaging, but I also like the Retro Glam logo for its mix of femininity and masculinity, which is what I envision the cosmetics line to become: Beautiful products for the badass in all of us. Haha. Which do you guys prefer? Which would you be able to see plastered on a bottle of shampoo or around a tube of lipstick?
Also if you guys have any other names you think would fit a "vintage-styled" cosmetics line, feel free to let me know! These are just the first two I could come up with and I'm definitely open to more ideas.

i'm kinda partial to the vintage vixen myself, but it seems like it's missing something....like it's a bit bare? know what i mean? i understand that you said these are a bit rough. i guess i would have to see what you have in mind to pair with it to get a better idea of what it really looks like, ya know? the littlest details make or break something really. looks like you're on to something though, like you're headed in the right direction. :) looking forward to seeing your progress down the road.

My apologies! When I said benchmark, I usually consider it "inspiration." Its not good to copy. But I know thats not what you're doing.
I always get stumped on fonts, as the text is usually a focal point. Simple, and easy to read is ideal. I think the traditional tattoo writing is fitting, based on what you've said.
Do you have your colors? What are your plans? Is this for your class, or are you developing products?
What a fun project! Can you share what you come up with? It would be nice to see your work!
Benefit Cosmetics is another source of inspiration for your project, but its a bit more on the prettygirl side vs badgirl.
RetroGlam is probably a better name with a larger market. I like the first setup of 2 fonts but I see the word COSMETICS more than Retro Glam, this is probably opposite of the effect you'd want, play with different fonts.
Yeah, I've seen some of the Benefit products, they're really cute.
Its just for a class, not actually creating the products! Thank you everyone for your input. I'll be sure to post updates as the project progresses.
Vintage Vixen is much better from the perspective of a different kind of consumer.
Vintage Vixen is better design plus it's more of a catchy catchy name.
You should also look at "The Balm" website, they have a whole retro/pin-up style to there packaging, you might want to look for inspiration, or just to know what other brands are out there.
I worked for Benefit cosmetics for four years and although they used to have that real retro look to their products they seem to be steering away from it a little.
