Ok, so there is a rat rod car show this summer and they are having a pinup competition. I have never really dressed 100% pinup and I have never walked across the stage and had an audience of almost all men judge me. My questions are, what should I wear? to win? How should I wear my hair? What kind of questions should I be prepared to answer? sheesh, my questions could go on n on. I have never modeled either, hehe. But I really want to do this. I want to make a career out of doing hair and makeup also for photo shoots, etc. So I would love the exposure and be able to build a portfolio for the future. Please help me. Thanks, dolls!

Moving to modeling...
you tube has great tutorials research famous pin ups classic cars hot rods rat rods they may ask questions pertaining to those subjects smile...
They also might have you pose with a car or motorcycle.  Just smile, wave, and work the crowd since usually that is how you are judged.  Don't be skanky (duh) but feel free to flirt it up and dress the part.
Smile, and show your personality on and off stage. Give the audience a real sense of who you are
thanks everyone, please, keep the advice coming!

It really depends on the contest. If it has real judges, and there are guidelines, then STICK TO THEM! If it says vintage, be vintage. Definitely be outgoing.

If it is judged by crowd response, (unfortunately most of them are), then the girls who shake their boobs and bend over for the crowd will get more response. It has nothing to do with pinup, but the contests are there mainly to drum up business for the event. So don't take it too seriously.

If you don't win (or place) DON'T be a poor sport and go on and on about how it was rigged, fixed, etc. I was recently a judge at a contest, and the judging criteria was pretty rigorous. Sure enough, one of the girls who didn't make the finals started badmouthing the judging, and me in particular, even though I had scored her higher than any of the other judges. Needless to say, she immediately gave herself a bad reputation, and won't be invited to participate in many events. So be nice, and save the rants for at home. If you are gracious, people will notice.

And good luck!

I almost forgot...DON'T wear stripper shoes! (unless it's a stripper contest) They have no place in a pinup competition. At most judged contests you get marked down for wearing them.

Thanks everyone! what wonderful advice so far! ok, so I have a few styles when it comes to this. I love the rockabilly/pinup style. Should I rock out what I want, or stick to straight up 50s pinup style for this? If I stick to the 50s pinup, I was going to wear something like a shirt dress with crinoline, heels, maybe some victory rolls..... and if I did rockabilly I was going to go with maybe a tighter type of dress with a rock n roll feel to it, if this makes any sense? I am going to post the link to the contest. maybe this will help you help me?

Good luck with the contest! You are already a winner because you are willing to put it out there and take a chance- that makes you brave :) Looking at the contest eules just now, it appears they are looking for classic and glamor....so I think that advice about nixing the stripper type shoes from Vintage Suits by Mary is spot on! Have fun! It is a fun event! No matter what happens, it is more experience for the next time! You will be a little less nervous and that will be great!  Good luck!  You can do it!
thanks so much for the kind words and encouragement!
