I love seeing the difference between how people dress nowadays and how they dressed back in the day. We have the thread about how everyday people dressed, http://www.pinuplifestyle.com/forum/topics/everyday-people-of-the-4..., but this article I found got me thinking about how people dressed when they were going places that we still go today.

I think it's amazing (and kind of sad) that we are going the same places they did, but the way we dress has drastically changed, and most of the time, not for the better.

So post up your then and now shots, and who knows, maybe if people see this thread, it will inspire them to dress a little nicer when they go out.

Ummm, I think we lost some glamor. Sad!
weddings have changed

It is really sad to see that society is letting it self go.. but what can we expect if when schools have a special day for wearing pijamas!!! oh and lets not forget dressing with silly hat day instead of more positive things like bring your best outfit and having a decent photo day girls no jeans and boys a nice suit perhaps, Comfort is being comfused with rags it really is depressing specially when they look at you like you are nuts for wearing a full skirt dress nicely groomed hair and a perhaps a hair flower. As parents we have the serious duty to show our kids right from wrong even for dressing.
Just for the record I HATED days like pyjama day and silly hat day...I never participated..I'm anti-social like that. lol
Really, why are people encouraged to let themselves go even MORE?

I blame hats. Well, not hats but the decline of hats. When do people where hats now? Weddings, funerals and sports games. Hats used to be an everyday part of outfits for men and women, but now people only wear them on special occassions or to show their support. In my opinion, hats make the outfit and should be bought back!

Also, I couldn't help but laugh at those photos! I hate slobs! Eugh, eugh, eugh! Did those people seriously look in the mirror that morning and go "Woah...I am HOT!"?!
Everything was so much more elegant back then. It's a shame people look down on those who DO try to dress nicely for events these days.
Thank you for posting this thread and the pictures! Some of them gave me a great laugh but at the same time it is sad how much our world has changed. I wish we all could go back to that way of life. I try to channel it as much as possible!
AGH. that makes me especially sad, because I used the same asian fabric from the first one to make the skirt for my prom dress senior year. I definitely looked way more awesome, if that's possible haha, but still...

same

I understand the importance of dressing properly, and I will most of the time. I will admit I wear yoga pants, tees and crocs to walmart or when walking my dogs; no make up no hair products. I may not look as classy, but I am coordinated and clean. I am not going to waste precious time and beauty/hair products on simple tasks in my very busy life. Furthermore, I prefer to wear my vintage clothing lightly, and not risk it getting damaged. I am a dancer at night, and a pinup model 2 to 6 days a week. I feel i need to give my hair, face and joints a rest. I just felt I should share this. not all people that wear crocs and flip flops are slobs.
I totally agree with this! I was born and raised most of my life on Oahu (Hawaii) and I lived in either bare feet or flip flops (or slippers, as we call 'em) for a good portion of my life. So much so, that I can't STAND wearing socks. They drive me bonkers.

And have you SEEN some of the new crocs that are out? They have ballet style flats, maryjanes, even wedges and heels! They're SUPER cute too!
