I'm bored. And curious. So, I'd like to hear thoughts and opinions on how Tuesday's polls ended up turning down Proposition 19 in the state of California.

Although I am in Ohio I watched a show on the History channel all about the pros and cons of legallizing sweet mary jane. I say legalize it. But thats just my opinion.
what amazes me is all the b******* that comes out of peoples mouth saying its a gateway drug. umm.... any drug is a gateway drug. I spent half the 90s in the rave scene which meant I had my fair share of street pharmaceuticals and the least fun of all of them was weed. even after my drug overdose I am still a supporter of marijuana usage (for the record though I do not smoke it).

I live in Missouri, so the outcome doesn't really affect me either way as well. I suppose that, should it of been granted, it could have possibly started a movement to where more states accept and support the proposition as well. Maybe *then* I would have a solid opinion on the matter. I'm honestly surprised it didn't pass, though. I don't see anything wrong with it, being that if it had been made legal, only adults ages 21+ would be able to partake legally. It wouldn't be any more of an issue than alcohol. Yes, minors would still indulge, but what can you do?
I just like to hear people's theories on how it would affect the economy, really.

oh if anyone is interested in the show its called Marijuana: A Chronic History.
tessa I agree with you I like hearing others people opinions as well.
The way the proposition is written is why it didn't pass. Marijuana would still be illiegal under fed law. If passed, each city would have the ability to enforce the fed law (unlike now) Nothing was mentioned about who would be able to sell it. The voters were well educated on this proposition. To pass it would have been a major step back and possibly resulted in many of the collectives being put out of business. There are an awful lot of patients in real need for medical marijuana that don't need another hoop to jump through with insurance and other b.s. just to survive another day.

It is a big step to get this issue on the ballot. Hopefully next time it will be a real benefit and not a trap.
