Hey Kiley! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and that link with us. Someone recently started a discussion on the same topic. Head over there to contribute your thoughts and re-post that link. Looks really handy to have!

Actually, Desi...that thread was just closed because it got SUPER heated.
To comment on your flag etiquette, Kiley...there were a couple things wrong...the way it was hung, and the fact that in a few of your photos, you have your feet or legs resting on it. Both big no-no's. Just something to keep in mind while doing patriotic shoots.

Thanks for the update, Honey!
People are trying around the world to re-create American military/patriotic pinup art. Does anyone have any suggestions on how PinupLifestyle.com can inform our members on proper flag etiquette? Obviously, we know no one here is trying to desecrate the flag in their photoshoots - they simply aren't aware of all of these guidelines. We would love to help members here on PL by bringing these guidelines to their attention so that their photorapghs can be appreciated for their true intent.
It's really about whether that photographer or model is aware of even minimal flag etiquette. Originally there were plans to drape the flag over me but I was hesitant to do that so my cousin and I came up with using chifon in similar colors to get the effect. Luckily for me my cousin and I are very similar and she understood my trepidation, especially since some of the pictures we did are being sent to a soldier serving in Afghanistan.

Desi, I totally agree with having some sort of "Military Etiquette" section. Pinup has such a RICH history in the Military, and many many MANY Pinups today are into recreating Military themed photos. I think it would be a great idea to have a "Military Etiquette" section permanently on PL. We can call it something like "Military Etiquette for the Modern Pinup".
Kiley, I could tell that you were trying to keep your feet away from the flag, which is admirable. However, no part of your body, other than your hands/arms, are supposed to be near the flag. This is a subject that I'm passionate about, I'm former Navy and a current Navy wife, and it really irks me when I see people using the flag disrespectfully, even if it's with good intentions. A good thing to remember (weird as it may sound) "The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing." - Section 8-J of Naval Flag Rules and Regulations
If you guys want, I have the official Naval SOP for Flag Etiquette? It's a dry read, and obviously not all of it applies to civilians, but it's good info.

I'm Army Reserves myself so that's why I was very much trying to not let my feet touch the flag in anyway. I could try to provide the Army regulation for Flag Etiquette as well if it's possible to get the Flag Etiquette section going.

Hey Ms. Kiley, at least you didn't get "written up" for it. I'm glad you posted this info. I will keep it in mind when I do my photos with the Flag.
I love the photos, and appreciate your love for our country! Thank you, and your man, for your service, Sweetheart!
Thanks Ms. Riotgirl...these are not going to be seen by my NCO's or Commanders at all...I've shown a few to a ROTC friend who knows my guy but those were the ones my friend Brandon did...not the new ones. I made it a point not to use any of my uniforms or the current uniforms, there isn't even a rank in sight in any of my pics. I just wish I could be a fly on the wall when my guy gets the pictures...especially the ones my cousin took, just to see his reaction, I already showed him a tamer one before he left to get his take on it and that was good but I really wanna see his reaction ya know.
