Photo shoot must haves

Models, photogs, designers and MUAH. What would you say are the 5 most important things to have at a photo shoot?

Please specify what field you are answering for. And please feel free to answer what you feel are the most important things for the model to bring to a shoot, no matter what your field.

Im just gonna be fully open to all of you because I hope this helps big:

1. Skin:
Shave. Im not going to spend 4 hours perfecting your skin if you forget.
If you have acne dont worry about it ( example- dont slather it w/makeup)
Lotion. light application PLEASE - I stress this often. if your face
is fresh powdered & your body is slick - in my oppinion looks way off.

ONLY YOU Know your skin the best so come clean faced with your foundation on,
you Will save time - ladies I love you if you already practice this.

2, Clothing.
MATCHING Color under garb, Im not gonna spend hours photo shopping your white bra
to match your red undies- it just doesnt look right- please use a new set if you decide to
go with white.

3. Poses & nerves.
Practice some poses with a friend you trust, if you can.
drink water not booze- sometime being nervous makes us think we can handle
the booze, I cant stress what a bad idea this ism trust me focus is key.

4. Good Attitude.
cells ringing mid shoot are a NO. simply lower the volume or put it on vibrate.
anyone with a smile and positive attitude can make time fly <3

5. the kitchen sink.

Sometimes for whatever reason a stylist might cancel last minute
bring 3 outfits with 3 types of eyeshadows for 3 looks: Colors that compliment gear.
gear being shoes, dress & accessories. I will love you forever! hair products- curling iron &
flat iron, hats are kick ass too!!
for the love of god tampons, I always have back up for just in cases but sometimes
I have a tendancy to leave a purse or bag behind...
nothing will stop a shoot faster then a monthly visitor.
1 good pair of black high heels. I love ya forever and a day- if you bring
a second pair wonderful but remember flats are a must if you plan 2 shoot for an entire day.

Ive styled people before sometimes I still do from head to toe:

If you cant make it please a simple call will keep the love alive
or if something comes up mid shoot emergencys or something let us know

us shutter bugs are people too and understand life is hecktic

and luck number 7:
Food. Cold sandwitches, carrot sticks anything because a food run mid shoot
is wack:

I always try to have a studio with a kitchen or snacks available (healthy)
Im not down to starve anyone so if I stop and chow be gracious and nibble
food with me- I stop the meter for grub <3 my all day shooters adore me
for this.

From a photographer I love it when a girls brings in these thing in to a shoot, even thought I have most of it the same stuff at the studio.

1st Corsets, petal pushers, keds, peep toes, halter tops, high wasted pants/ shorts, wiggle skrits, and last and very important.... flower for your hair

hair and makeup come in 2nd...... do you reasearch and learn how to do a few things.

I've learned a LOT from this thread! I'm still in the process of setting up a shoot for my jewelry. I'll have to keep all of these things in mind when it actually happens!

This is an awesome thread. PUL should make a 'checklist' to tab somewhere with all these hints!

The day before I go I always have my things packed that have been coordinated head to toe. This means trying each outfit on to make sure everything works or it does not come. No rips, stains, dangling threads - the camera sees everything.

Excellent tip about shoes - they must not have touched the pavement! Even once! I usually go to a discount store and get some cheap stilletos because the lenthen the leg line and do not cut the ankle with a strap. Personally I adore straps of all kinds on my shoes but I dont choose those for the photo op. And I've been to shoots where I've had to walk around in someones that went with their outfit and they were 2 sizes two big and this is difficult! Better to spend a few on a cheap pair that will work and have one less thing to worry about.

If I am wearing someone elses clothing I pack clothespins - they help tailor the clothing to your shape. This always seems to call for a wider variety of undergarments. Usually wear a nude gstring and bring lots of bras for a variety of necklines.

Sleep in the buff the night before and wear loose fitting clothing or you will have marks that may take awhile to relax - think sock lines, panty lines etc where you don't want them seen. Uber important in implied nudity or where you plan to show some skin.

Lotion/SPF before you go. Good tip earlier about the use of a lotion that wont have you looking dewey unless that is the look for the whole body. Plus you dont want that coming off n your outfits.

Cellulite tip: IF you have an outfit that permits or are wearing fishnets wear a pair of nude pantyhose underneath. Instant photoshop!

Snackbars. I never want to eat more than a power bar during a session for fear of bloating right up! Cheeseburger immediately following is a great reward!

Manicure is a must. Plus it will make you feel pampered and girlie in advance.

Like anything, the more you do it the more comfortable it feels and the more you learn. I pack way too much everytime because I like to give the photographer choices of what they want to work with. They need to be inspired as it's their creative eye that makes the image - I'm just the prop!

I will try to add 5 that haven't been covered/mentioned already:

1)multiple color bras with removable/rearrangeable and invisible straps--black, white, nude
2)safety pins--in case something rips or needs to be take in a little or held a certain way to prevent wrinkles in the wrong places
3) styling spritz--cheaper and better than hairspray, your hair will stay for days in any style and it doesn't get sticky, then you can comb it out and have vroomvroom sex kitten curls
4)wig/toupee tape-- better than "fashion tape" and comes in rolls that you can tear to appropriate length
5)clear ziploc bags LABELED with various stocking types--control top, sheer to waist, thigh highs, fishnets; so that you can grab and change quickly without having to examine them as you pull them out of your suitcase/garment bag on set and waste time

[Fluffer Designs]

On top of what others have mentioned - For Models;
Your own make-up, especially if you have sensitive skin
Water [maybe a light snack]
Comfortable shoes
Band Aids [just in case]
Extra Undies [extra lots of things actually for those just in case moments]
A robe for those in between shoots or in between outfits moments

and always wear something loose before hand if showing off skin unless you want to show off indentations from tight bra straps, etc.

For Photographers, my BF used to do film and tv and he says there's two things you can never have enough of - electrical cords and sand bags

A selection of corsets, fully fashioned stockings, suspender belts etc.
Shoes in many colours
Music that gets you in the mood
ANy props you'd like to use
A sense of humour ESSENTIAL
