Hi Ladies!

So I recently dyed my hair red, and I know that red tends to fade pretty quick, but I was wondering if any of you have any tips on how to make it last just a little bit longer?
And it seems that the tips have faded much quicker than the top - would it be wise next time around to start at the tips so it sets longer?

I used Garnier, if that makes any difference in anyone's response, or if you would suggest another brand.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

xoxo Nicole

That is the conclusion I have come to as well, but I'm not giving up! I am LOVING the red hair. I will definitely look for a stylist once I get settled, and in the meantime will grab the shampoo and conditioner.
Thanks for your help!!

I used to use home hair color, too, but it seriously doesn't look as good as a professional job! It's totally worth the money to go to a salon. My favorite products are Redken. They make shampoo & conditioner specifically for redheads:
redken color extend
All the Color Extend products have UVA and UVB filters to help resist fading.
These products will help resist fading, but the sad truth is red hair fades more quickly than any other color. Even naturally red hair. So you're basically just postponning the inevitable. But I don't mind the upkeep cuz redheads rock!
I had red hair for 5 years.. I always washed my hair in cold water, it helps the color from not bleeding.

I also used pureology, or goldwell. They have great products for red hair!!
Try using an amonia free semi-permanent hair dye between dying your hair with permanent dye to boost the colour up. Manic Panic do a good one, so LisaFreemontStreet says on youtube!

A deposit shampoo works amazing. I used Loreal's cherry bark shampoo but they discontinued it. It had a major tint to it and I would use it every 4 days. You can find some really good deposit shampoos for cheap on ebay. I just find them and then google for reviews, then ask my sister who does hair about them before purchase.
My advice is sort of a combination of all. First of all. My mom uses Garnier and her hair looks like straw it is dryer then dry and honestly from what I have seen the color is never what it says on the box and it doesn't come out the color it says it should within your shade.

Second I will say I have been bottle dying my own hair for years, I mean from 14-now (28) Its all in the conditioner and shampoos that you use also after dying your hair. I feel a common mistake most home hair dyers make is dying their hair themselves in the sense in order to get good all over coverage you can't normally physically do the actual coloring yourself. But if you have a friend do it and they are not good at it that is no good either. Red and Black are two of the hardest colors to apply evenly by yourself. If you bleach your hair out its pretty simple to get it pretty evenly. Also another tip from me on home hair dying is use a comb or brush so it coats the hair more evenly, Also it is best to do it in a mirror where you can see all sides of your head to get the best coverage if your doing it alone and make sure you buy a product at sally's that will get the hair dye off your skin if you leave it on too long before washing it off or you go around with a spot of black or red. When conditioning your hair with the conditioner they give you in the box. Make sure that you save it for the entire week and dont use it all in one day. I personally suggest that you use their conditioner and use the suave 4x smoother conditoner or a hair coloring shampoo when you dye your hair there are also shampoos in the shampoo aisle that our just for red hair and blonde even at your local wal mart.

I will say that getting it done in a salon is way more then convenient. But if you find a good hair coloring friend you can get the same if not very similar results for a bargain price. My mom and I have been dying each others hair for years.
Granier's products can do a toll on most people's hair. It has alot of citrus based ingredients

Im trying to figure out how to get my hair fire engine red. I just did manic panic infrared, and my hair was a lighter copper red, for some reason it made my hair burgandy which is not what I like. Those burgandy purple toned reds dont suit my skin tone Im going to the beauty supply store after dinner to look around. I usually dont ask them for advice because of past experiences and call my sister since she understands color levels and its chemistry. Good luck
I HIGHLY recommend Paul Mitchell color and their tea tree shampoos/conditioners for color treated hair. I use a demi permanent hair gloss which is really hard to find online. You can find some great deals on ebay for the PM shine gloss collection Theres many forums of how to use it properly. The gloss is Really thin and messy so i advise to have a buddy help since it splatters everywhere and a bottle is key for applying it instead of a brush. They have a sexy copper color called marmalade.
Ladies, as Desi stated, this discussion should be continued in the dollhouse. Thanks!
