Was just looking for stories about your first performances as burlesque dancers.

I had my first show Friday night. It was three different acts... one classic, one contortionism, one with another dancer and a live band. I guess I got thrown right in!

My first act was at a strip club. The other girls just seemed so boring, and there were no "acts" to speak of, so I brought my fans, an evening gown and gloves and did a Gypsy style act, complete with talking to the audience. Needless to say, the club owner didn't like it, but most of the men did, so I kept it up and had a blast. That was 12 years ago. Congratulations on your first night, I hope there are many more to come!
Thats so funny! I was talking to Sable about busting into a strip club on amateur night with all the burlesque dancers and taking over! LOL! Wouldn't that be great?
You should! I think it would be great!

I'd LOVE to be there to see that. Especially the looks on the customer's faces when they see the light!
Man, I really wish I would have seen your first performance sweetheart. That would have been too much fun.

My first time performing was at a brand new venue in DC. This was actually Gilded Lily Burlesque's first performance, and we had no clue what to expect, nor did we have any experience with venues. So, when we got there, it was this tiny, itsy bitsy run down theater and there was no stage. We actually had to perform on the floor and the audience was less than an arms' length away. We actually sold out the venue and had a great first show, but vowed never to hold another performance there again. It was hilarious!
I am going to revive this thread!!! I had my first burlesque performance last week in the cabaret show that I do. I do it while one of the other gals in the show sings "Strip Polka". The first night was (in my opinion) almost a disaster! I was so nervous that I just started taking off my costume pieces right away. And then, my corset gets caught on my fishnets! I thought I was going to die. So I bent over slowly and seductively, unhooked the corset from my thigh and gave it a little "spanking" (which the audience loved btw)... but I was blushing bright red! The next night, I slowed way down and took my time. I even incorporated a Japanese fan that was lent to me by the theatre owner. Each night I have discovered new things and have become much more comfortable with the song, and my costume pieces. I guess practice makes perfect huh? I am still praying to the pastie goddess every night though! So nervous about those popping off lol. I have 4 more to go and then it's onto planning the next one!!!
oooh what a fantastic save!!!

Great thread! Congrats on your first performance.

Mine is coming up in a week and I am so freaking nervous. Scared *expletive deleted* actually. is that normal?
Congratulations on your first show! My first was back in March and it was so much fun!! I managed to pull my own pastie off when I removed the bra...took the pastie right with it to the floor! Talk about jumping in with both feet! I have since learned to remove carefully, and now I use hair bonding latex glue instead of athletic tape.

Burlesque is like tattoos...you can't just do it once!
Ok I feel a lot better! lol. And you are right, it's kind of addicting now! And Cherry, I am used to being on stage, but for this, I could feel my heart trying to beat out of my chest! So yes, being nervous seems to be normal! Break a leg ok?!

Just a quick update; my first performance was on Tuesday night. The audience seemed to love my act and I had a blast! I can't wait for our repeat show on Monday. The only negative was that I managed to leave a dress and a bra behind in the tiny, ill-lit dressing room. (Oops!) Fortunately, our teacher picked them up for me!
Bravo Cherry Cyanide!!! I bet you were amazing! Good thing your teach picked up your costume for ya! ;-)
