I love seeing the difference between how people dress nowadays and how they dressed back in the day. We have the thread about how everyday people dressed, http://www.pinuplifestyle.com/forum/topics/everyday-people-of-the-4..., but this article I found got me thinking about how people dressed when they were going places that we still go today.

I think it's amazing (and kind of sad) that we are going the same places they did, but the way we dress has drastically changed, and most of the time, not for the better.

So post up your then and now shots, and who knows, maybe if people see this thread, it will inspire them to dress a little nicer when they go out.

This discussion is AWESOME. it makes me wonder what people are really thinking when they leave the house.
I hate wearing pants, and I do everything in my power to not wear pants, actually the only time I have pants on is when I am at work.. Otherwise I am in a dress, current record. 32 days of no pants..
I wish I was born in a different era, because this is making me sad for humanity.
Ok...these "Now" pics are just really sad. It's unbelievable how people go out looking like slobs! That may be harsh but whatever...you'd think the governer of Alaska would wear something a little nicer since she knows she's gonna have her photo taken! Good grief! Is it possible to travel back in time yet? : P

This is the BEST thread EVER!!! I have a pic of my mom & uncle from when they were little, she was born in 63; so they're not from the 50's, but still cute.

My Mom and Uncle...

And my kids from last Christmas...

Yes my son had a mohawk, it was red.... ;-)
Wow, I wish I had pictures to add, my parents still have all the ones of my grandparents and great grandparents.

We're got a group of friends who always dress up when we go out, and about a year ago, we went out and had dinner for my birthday, and an older couple actually came over to the table and asked "who are you guys" because they figured since we were young and dressed so nice there had to be something up with us. I just like to look nice and put together is all!

I think that "sports culture" leaking over into everyday clothing definitely affected things, and I think a lot of that happened in the late 60's and into the 70's. The term "sportswear", as far as fashion went, used to just mean the clothing you wore everyday — not your formal wear. This still meant dresses with full skirts, or skirts and blouses for women, and shirts and slacks for men. Now it means Nike.

I think it definitely says something about a person who presents themselves well in every situation. After all — you never know who you might meet!

Ummm, I think we lost some glamor. Sad!
I don't have any photos to post but this is something that I have actually thought about. It bothers me when I go some place--maybe shopping or lunch--with friends and they want to know why I wear dresses or heels. I like to wear dresses & heels, I feel comfortable that way. My Granny always told me that a lady always puts her best foot forward...and never leaves home w/o her pearls on. I've actually seen adults show up at fine dining 5-star restaurants in jeans or shorts. I find that offensive.
