Cold Weather Pin Ups. What to wear and how to wear it.

So I'm all about folding up my jeans and having capris on EVERYDAY in the summer... unless I have on a cute sundress. So what the heck am I gonna do come winter? It happenes every year, I get all grumpy after fall when I feel like it's time to retire my pencil skirts and halter dresses and peep toes and .... I'm just not happy about it. I feel like I can't a good vintage style going with freakin' pants on. What do you ladies wear in the winter? Am I the only wimp that tucks her cute skirts in the back of the closet?

I used to live in MT and still rocked my pencil skirts and dresses in the winter. In subzero temps I would wear nude colored or black tights and then wear my fishnets over them to add some texture. It was cute and added just a little more warmth! I know that not everyone is into to tights though. I usually would take my heels with me but wear chucks or flats driving and getting though the snow so I didn't face plant on the ice.
I also rock black skinny denim and have my heart set on my buying some highwaisted vintage Levi's this year!

Also I adore fur! Just like Tessa and Roxy said, Fur is amazing. I have a coat much like the one that Tessa posted but it is grey with Raccon trim! Mu husbands grandmother gave it to me last winter, she has mink stole that I will inherit too!
I agree, Ms. Corinne. It is not very snuggly to think of wearing skirts in the cold, unless you can incorporate warmth with leggings, and sweaters, etc. I put my mohair jackets, hats, and gloves to good use in the cold.

The ironic thing is, that summers here tend to be colder than winters in some locations. We bundle up pretty much on a regular basis.
I love fur! I plan on raiding my nan's attic (she's kept all her clothes from the 1950's) and 'borrowing' her fur coat before I go to university hehe! I don't get the hoohah about fur either; as long as its not tiger or whatever what is the issue? Fur is mainly from animals counted as 'pests' - fox, rabbit, and even mink in some places like the UK - and don't these people eat beef and wear leather shoes? Jeez!

Oh, yes! Fur for the win! I am an animal lover by far, but I go ga-ga over vintage fur! I'll have to post photos of my coats, but I have a b-e-a-utiful minx coat from the 60's. PERFECT condition, and it's dyed with a leopard print. It was originally $600 but the guy running the vintage shop I bought it from was a total doll and sold it to me for a steal of $300!
I also have one much like this one that Roxy posted, except mine is blue with a rabbit trim.

I still rock pencil skirts and dresses in the winter. Shucks, I'm in Missouri where it snows like crazy, and I still wear flats in the thick of it all. Just invest in some fur if you haven't already, and you'll be just fine. =0]

ah yes...fur coats rule! if anyone harra**** me about it, I just lie and tell them it's fake fur. then they shut up. haha!
I need these! NEED!

Hahaha, I LOVE my furs. I don't like the idea of new fur, especially when theres so much good vintage stuff out there.
If anyone says anything about it, I usually go with the "Yes its real and its older than your Gran/great gran" an walk away.

Cardigans, cute vintage style jumpers, Jeans with the turn up. I know theyre awful, but tights.
sometimes I even wear a long sleeve tee underneath dresses and such.

I'm all about the fur. I have several of my Yia Yia's stoles and coats. They're in storage in California (due to me NEVER living anywhere I could USE them) She's having a few of them cleaned and sent to me here in Washington this winter! (yaaay!) a few of them I'm just too afraid to even take out of the coat boxes. She bought one of them (a Dark grey Chanel Chinchilla) for $1000 in 1955! I can't even IMAGINE how much it's worth now! ((EEEEK!)) It's incredibly soft, is calf length and absolutely GORGEOUS.

i think watching movies from the 40's and 50's that were set in the colder seasons is a good way to get inspiration. i've always thought the clothes the clothes that Vera-Ellen wears in White Christmas were fantastic. she has one outfit where she's wearing a black turtleneck with a houndstooth circle skirt that i've always wanted to replicate.
Ahhhhh, cardigans and sweater clips, two of my favorite things!!

Ok, totally off topic, but I just got a genius idea. I have a buch of my Nanny's (great-gramma's) old jewlery, all pins and earings and pearl necklaces.... I'm gonna try to make a sweater clip from a pair of earings and a necklace. Most of her earings were clips and a lot of her 'pearls' were like the ones on the sweater clip above with the black roses... I'm so doing that!!
Great idea! Post them in the DIY section.

And to get back on topic, a few 1950s winter pictures:
