I'm just curious what people actually DO for a living. Do you love your job? Did you go to school for your job? I have such a strange job, and I'm always curious to hear what people do to make money.

I work offshore, in the gulf of Mexico, on a boat. I am a Life Support Technician, Here is a picture of what my office looks like.
I work on the boat for a month and then I am off work for a month, So I only work 6 months a year.. the rest of the time is vacation.

I work in finance in a big office building doing admin and office duties. I look a little out of place with my leopard print clothing, piercings and purple hair
I work at Sally's Beauty Supply, and I adore it there. I have fun working with the other employee's ( even though there are just two others) and love how laid back everything is.
I burn c.d.'s and play them over the stereo while I work, I can do my nails on my break and I pretty much just advise people how to look pretty. I love it!

I also have been making a pretty decent income from performing recently, My career in that aspect has really expanding itself and I love the fact that I am getting more money out of performing than putting in.

=)

oooh dolly de maul and mistress_zen, you both have awesome jobs!! mistress_zen i love that you remind me of penelope on criminal minds, totally pinup in a non-pinup world! dolly, i LOVE sally's!!!

i'm a lowly science grad student....think librarian type by day, vintage fab by night/weekend!
I used to work at a vet hospital as a kennel attendant/receptionist and they sometimes used me to help the vet techs, such as restraining, taking x-rays, etc. It was not always clean work but I loved the animals and most of my co-workers. The worst part was the death, whether from sickness, accidents, or euthanization. But the best part was assisting with C-sections and reviving kittens and puppies and hearing those first little mews from those tiny mouths! Now I work in a completely different field - I work at the county courthouse. My main duties: pushing papers - ha! I miss the critters but I'm making more $$, the hours are better and I get paid vacation & sick time. What I miss the most about working at the vet hospital are these little boogers:
Munch & Calvin
Munch & Calvin - our hospital dogs. They were boyfriend and girlfriend.
Taltos
And Taltos (the black one - they got the orange one after I left).
They were my buddies and I miss them more than my ex co-workers! ha!

I work with animals. Im a Vet Assistant and do everything from cleaning kennels and scheduling apotintments to placing IV catheters in biting chihuahuas, taking Xrays of wiggling cats and giving oxygen to guinea pigs . i love working with animals and seeing them recover. but the job is super hard and stressful. i often see abuse, have to euthanize family friends and the hours suck . plus your doctor(if he owns the practice) is as crazy as a bat. i'd say its 50/50 for me. could be better if i worked at a diff practice.
I'm an Out Side Sales Rep For Sally Beauty Supply. I deliver supplies to my local Salons. I went to school for Cosmetology, but I haven't gone to ST. Board yet... it's a looong story.... but soon I'll be working in a salon.
Everyone has some awesome careers!
Right now I'm a stay at home mom/ part time bartender.
Before that I was a piercer for many years.
I loved it bc I could pretty much do whatever I wanted, including telling a rude ass customer to kiss it when they were being a complete douche for not reason!
Total freedom
So glad to see some other animal care workers on here!! I work with animals for a living also!

I started out in doggy daycare, it was TONS of fun playing Playground Monitor for a huge group of pups. I started hating life when I got promoted to a management position though since the owner of the place was a horrible woman, so I left and became a Dog Walker, which was also oodles of fun, hiking around with 6 off-leash dogs enjoying their wild side (despite the cold rain or beating sun). The economic downturn cause me to lose that job too

So now I work in a small privately-owned pet supply shop. I love educating customers on the best foods and wellness products for their animals, and even more when they come back thanking me for helping them so much! The small-store setting really gives us time to work one-on-one with customers, and I know about half the people that walk into the store daily by name, we have so many regulars! Many of them only come in because they're out walking the dog and their pooch DRAGS them in the door to get a treat from one of the employees pockets XD

I love it there, but my heart yearns for something more. I want to REALLY help animals, down in the nitty gritty. I've already applied to many of the cities in my area to be an Animal Control Officer (including Oakland...eep!). It's difficult to land these positions though, and I've been on the waiting list for Oakland for about 3 years now without any movement forward (you have to get hired through the city, and you can guess how long city officials take to do stuff like this). So in the mean-time, I am thinking of going to school to become a Registered Veterinary Technician, IF I can figure out a way to both afford it, and have time to do it with my (very necessary) job in the way =/

Sorry for chatting y'alls ears off, I'm sure it's more detail than any of you care to hear, but I can't help it, I really love my line of work!!
I AM JEALOUS OF ALL YOU GALS!!
Seriously I always wondered how people can get lucky with such cool jobs. I guess it's about talent, who you know, craigslist, and being a mommy haha.

Just recently I was interviewed twice for Sally Beauty, but they never called back. Sad I know, but currently I am a student and my two jobs are Forever21 and United Artists.
Exotic Clothing Removal Engineer (see Stripper def.)

I'm not embarassed to admit that at 29, I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up. Nothing has made that "calling" to me. Right now I am enjoying the money and freedom that this industry is giving me. My father told me that when I am ready, I'll be ready, and when I know, I'll know.
It's cool to see everyone's "day jobs!" I work as a critical care nurse in a busy San Francisco hospital.
Your job looks so cool...all those colourful switches....if I was there I'd be tempted to see what every one does.

I'm a theatre student and part time waitress.
Nothing too extraordinary thus far but I only turned 20 so I have plenty of time on my hands. I am hoping to get my hands on some paid acting gigs starting this fall, but the whole audition- knowing you did good-getting rejected scares the hell out of me.
