When did Pin-Up become a "thing"

I hate when I am out in town & get the same statement "I love that look. I'm kinda trying that retro thing now, Pin-Up is the it thing right now, it's so in" I have never been one to follow, in fact I have a unique look. I don't have an ego, but it seems that after I wear something or do something, I see 3 people out in town with the same thing. Way to be original. Let me do my thing & leave me out of the catagories please. Those who are fake, the posers, the coppy-cats are lost without someone to follow.

Grrrr! this is starting to vaguely annoy me. The past week or so everyone who talks to me at work or in shops ect tells me "Oh did you know the 40's/50's stuff is coming back in fashion?" "No" "Well you MUST do cause your dressed like THAT"
What the nuts is that meant to mean. My boss has taken rather well to turning round and saying in a very belittling tone that I always dress like this, I don't follow SILLY little fads or what a magazine tells me to wear.

I mean don't get me wrong, if they want to be posers and play at the PL fine, do that. But don't assume I'm one of them.

The one thing I like about this "trend" is that all the hair, makeup and general styling I've been doing for almost 2yrs. This means that I can do my hair perfectly in around 10min and makeup in around 5min. And STILL get asked (and stopped in the street to be asked) if I've just had my makeup and hair done professionally.
I think that in this "trend" that will be what separates us from the posers (apart from the obvious ie. Were not posers/fake ect), We have had the practice and the time. And we will always look better. Our hair will always look that little bit more perfect, our makeup that little bit more refined, our outfits more finished and polished and our over all look 100% perfect for us.

Yes I will get annoyed because the assumption is were all just playing at the PL due to this fad. But when its all over in 3months, We will still be standing.
So call me a poser, then come back in a year or twos time and try to call me a poser again when your still following blindly what a magazine tells you.


ooooh and in around 3-6months all those cute dresses and skirts will be in the charity shops ect. yay for us

ok...i'm about to piss some people off but, whatever. I used to have this attitude about things. But as i'm getting older, I am realizing it's so pointless to walk around trying to one-up people with my "original" look,and trying to prove that i've been into something since i was in my mothers womb. Unless you are Lily Christine, Greta Garbo, Bettie Page, Veronica Lake or anyone from these eras....then you too are like those people you talk about that bother you for wanting to replicate a version of the old hollywood and/or pinup "look". It's better to just be flattered when someone likes something you're doing so much that they actually start to make an attempt at their own version on it...you know, kinda like how all the old glamazons and original pinups of the golden eras would be flattered by your attempts on a "style"/"look' that THEY PIONEERED. Back in the day, the women of glamour were the epitome of fashion, glamour, sassiness, and most of all a very visible sense of self-security. Insecurity comes out in negativity... embrace the era, do it your way and smile when someone wants to do what you're doing...it's the biggest compliment.

mmmm, well I think that right now there is a few posers out there who wear "pin up hair" 'cause is a trend but it doesn't really bother me, 'cause sooner or later another trend will pop up, plus I now my style is inspired in a lot of things, as one of my professors says "you didn't invented what you wear, you wear it because you've seen it somewhere else".
As far as clothing goes I wish it was in in my country 'cause it is so hard to find pencil skirt and retro dresses, I buy normal "secretary skirts" as my sis calls them and fix them to fit the way I want them.

I was retro before retro was cool . My husband is the same way. He was driving a 50s car to high school when it got him mocked, but he liked it and drove it and sported the pompadour and jeans when people were grooving to Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer, thinking that was cool.

As for me, my dad was an artist and always embraced the classic fedora and 3 piece suit look. I grew up with old movies, Charlie Chaplin and the incomparable Louise Brooks, also the Abbott and Costello flicks and later Audrey Hepburn movies when I was a teen. I always looked at the contemporary style and wondered why people chose such ugliness over the beauty of the 1920s-50s. To me it isnt a fad or a trend it is a permanent lifestyle !
