Tiki Oasis is in San Diego in August. www.tikioasis.com It is sold out, but... the show on Thursday at the Bali Hai featuring Tikiyaki Orchestra and Marina the Fire Eating Mermaid are open to the public. There are tix avail for the various symposiums and I don't believe you need a ticket for the car show on Saturday. Sunday, the event is open to the general public. If you can't make it this year, put it on your calendar for next summer - its a blast!

I wanted to go so bad!! But it's not gonna happen this year. Which is so sad, because I'm doing my dining room Tiki themed right now.

No, just kidding. This particular event is here because CA is the birthplace of the "Tiki Culture". The GI's who brought it back after the war started a phenomenon, especially in SoCal. The suburbs ate it up and gave it a life, a look, and a personality. So while we have the Pacific Islands to thank for all the amazing tiki history, we have CA in the 50's to thank for our "modern" tiki culture.

Lol, well everything related to pinup culture is on the west coast it seems, although i did see a bash put on by dynamite dames coming up in ft worth!!!
