I have delt with alot of misplaced emotion lately. Not my own, but others. When someone is so miserable, that their only happiness is trying to bring others down....it's sad. Yesterday I delt with an older person running her mouth because she has misplaced anger so she unloads on me. Turns out, according to her that this "pin-up thing" is out of style & it was "trashy" to begin with. I also have to deal with not being taken seriously because where I live is not where I'm from, & where I live isn't too "keen" on "people like me." That won't sway me, I am who I am & won't change. Those who try to make me sad or angry or hurt my feelings....kiss off. Don't judge someone based on where they live, where they are from, or because they don't look like you. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, or who has to deal with this. I also know there are people out there like me, I think that's great.

I constantly get slated by people where I live. I get sneered at by people who I can only describe as Oompa Loompas in the street, told my music is "crap, boring and all the same" by my Godparents, and told that I need to get with the times and stop living in the past. It hurts most when it's from the people close to you, and I can't help but snap sometimes. Hopefully, come September, my life will change for the better and I can leave the nastiness behind.

What is great for us though, is we can always come on here of an evening and now we're not alone in our way of life.
I used to live in a small town in MT, and girls with tattoos, red lips, and fringe bangs weren't the norm. I got a lot of flack before moving to California. I know that it is hard but don't let it get to you! You have support right here on PL!
A very wise man by the name of De. Suess once said: "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." I live by that quote...YOU are what matters, who are they anyway? The people that really do belong in your life don't care where you live, or what you wear...they care about you and that's all that matters.
Haha, Ive had everything from Pin ups are just nude models and sluts to Your music doesn't exist (Psychobilly)
I get stared at in the supermarket like im about to bite someones face off. pointed at and lauged at by women, gawped at by men. Been told I'm a bad influence cause I have tattoos, A fake cause im not from the 40's/50's (well duh brightspark, im 22), Im a weirdo, Im a psycho and that I'm a whore/slut (In a mid calf skirt and high neck sweater). I need to be more modern and like other girls my age. Im a freak who makes curtains (that was for making my own dresses)
Im trying to be too sexy by wearing stockings.
The guy that works next to where I work stopped my boss to tell her one saturday he saw me outside the fighting cocks (an alternative pub) with men who were covered in tattoos, and smoking and drinking alcohol. and that I was in with a very bad crowd. My boss was like WTF?! Ive met those guys and they are lovely. She set him straight in no uncertain terms lol
That starts to cover what I get in my area.

I guess we just have to support each other. *Big hugs* for my PL sisters lol
Just got back from the Hotrod Hayride and, honestly, I've never felt so at home! I didn't stand out, everyone was so complimentary on outfits, cars and music, and there was no nastiness at all!

I live in NYC and I can tell you, I get stared at and people make their remarks about me as well. But screw them, I would rather be happy being who I am and doing what I love than being who I'm not. I've absolutely lovedddd everything retro since childhood (for example: I still have my old 50's Barbie sleeping bag and all my old poodle skirt halloween costumes haha) and growing up defintely has not changed it, just strengthened it. People don't like things that are different no matter what it is. I just try to pay no mind to those people.

Surprisingly though, the people who absolutely love how I dress and do my hair are the people you'd never guess...old people! I'm talking 60s and 70s! They love it and I seriously get compliments DAILY from old ladies cause they say I remind them of being younger. The good outweighs the bad for me. Don't let anyone get you down!
It's so annoying when people misplace their anger and other negative emotions onto other people! That old lady sounds like a bitter old prune whose husband prolly looked at pinups more than he did at her! Good for you for keeping her head up. I love Betty Red's Dr. Seuss quote. I live by a quote from Anne Frank: "I would rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I am not."
Where in Montana?? I live in Missoula Mt, and it IS getting better here. We have a roller derby team now which has brought all us tattooed chicks out of hiding. I have done two pin up contests, and am getting ready for the third here soon. All of the photographers in town are all on a vintage bender so this works out great for me. As far as Missoula goes, tattooed chicks are the norm, and the rockabilly/vintage look is catching on. It's just taken a couple of us to be brave and deal with the cat calls and sideways glaces. I kind of like being different so it really doesn't bother me all that much.

Where do you gals live?!?!? I have never experienced anything like that. I always get smiled at when I go out all done up. Women, and men, of every age talk to me about my looks, and it's always complementary. I have to admit, if I did come across someone acting like that, I wouldn't keep quiet, I'd give as good as I got. And who are those people to judge you? No one, that's who.

Just remember to keep positive, always have a smile, and don't give those "others" any reason to be nasty.
