When did Pin-Up become a "thing"

I hate when I am out in town & get the same statement "I love that look. I'm kinda trying that retro thing now, Pin-Up is the it thing right now, it's so in" I have never been one to follow, in fact I have a unique look. I don't have an ego, but it seems that after I wear something or do something, I see 3 people out in town with the same thing. Way to be original. Let me do my thing & leave me out of the catagories please. Those who are fake, the posers, the coppy-cats are lost without someone to follow.

When you are passionate about something it can be irritating to see other people "using" a certain clothing style/lifestyle when you know they only do it since they have read about it in a mainstream magazine and don't really care about it.

I totally agree with you...those who aren't true fans,or don't love that style will forget about it.. and quite soon...
The important is how you feel it when you wear it,your personality...
I just embrace something that love...doesn't matter if it is hot or not...if on the cover of a mag.
as Wilde said I think fashion is something ugly you must change every six months....
so what really matters is what you like!!!!your own style...

I honestly can say that I love that people are embracing it. Although in my small town I still get "How do you get your hair like that" etc. I think that when people who are not totally passionate about it when they get bored with it. I am ready to go shopping on ebay to pick up their stuff they don't want anymore.
As long as you are true to yourself it doesn't matter. Just take it as a compliment that you are their inspiration.

ok...i'm about to piss some people off but, whatever. I used to have this attitude about things. But as i'm getting older, I am realizing it's so pointless to walk around trying to one-up people with my "original" look,and trying to prove that i've been into something since i was in my mothers womb. Unless you are Lily Christine, Greta Garbo, Bettie Page, Veronica Lake or anyone from these eras....then you too are like those people you talk about that bother you for wanting to replicate a version of the old hollywood and/or pinup "look". It's better to just be flattered when someone likes something you're doing so much that they actually start to make an attempt at their own version on it...you know, kinda like how all the old glamazons and original pinups of the golden eras would be flattered by your attempts on a "style"/"look' that THEY PIONEERED. Back in the day, the women of glamour were the epitome of fashion, glamour, sassiness, and most of all a very visible sense of self-security. Insecurity comes out in negativity... embrace the era, do it your way and smile when someone wants to do what you're doing...it's the biggest compliment.

Trends come and go but personality is forever. If you love a certain style then rock it like there is no tomorrow but never let someone label you. Whats strange to me is when some girls in the scene who you dont know see you and all of sudden their sizing you up, I freak'n hate that. A simple hello I like your outfit or something would be nice. I'd rather get a compliment from someone whos not into the scene than someone gawking with the evil eye who is.

Every type of fashion has it's time and many seem to come back around again. You can find people sporting fashion from almost every era or at least inspired by it. But yes, I understand what you mean because I too get the people saying that it's so cute and so in right now. I just smile and nod...because those who change with the trends don't usually understand a life style. We follow the trend (to a degree) of the era we love...I understand the feeling of wanting to be unique and not wanting followers, but at the same time it's kind of cool if you cooperate with them and watch girls blossom into the vintage inspired scene they may stick with...it's better than most the "fashion" that's out there. So, maybe we can start making the world better by pushing those wanna be's into their own vintage inspired style and encourage it that way. haha!

The beauty of the current Pinup Lifestyle is that there are a million translations. yes, the inspiration may be of a retro decent, but I haven't seen ONE girl walking around head to toe legit 40's or 50's (with the exception of Bernie and Dita). I'm very much inspired by my Nana. Do I dress like her? no. Do I remember her quirky ways of properly doing a pin curl? absolutely! and I use them to make my own variations of vintage hairstyles!

I don't think many people can say that their style signature is vintage. Vintage inspired, yes. So I feel that I can say that I've been dressing with the same inspiration most of my pre/ and all of my post pubescent life. I don't call myself rockabilly, or psychobilly, or modern, or retro. (though I hear "retro" a lot) I'm all of the above, with a little of my own flair. LOVE IT! lol
