Hello,
My name is Trish and this is my first discussion. I'm also gathering some information for an up-and-coming blog entry. (I've linked my blog on my profile)

Vintage makeup! What makeups do you use that create an authentic pinup look?

What shades do you know of that were all the rage in the 1940s-1960s and are still continued, whether the formulas have changed or not? How about new makeup with vintage inspired packaging?

Besame packaging is absolutely elegant. The entire line is vintage inspired and smells great.

Revlon makes a colour lipstick shade called Wine With Everything that is authentic. They also continue to sell their infamous Cherries in the Snow, a pinky red, and a gloss version called Cherries in the Glow. See also: Love That Red, Fire & Ice. You have to search a bit, but they're out there.

MAC's Russian Red is a pinup staple and is said to be Dita Von Teese' favorite.

Also, I find I get the best winged eye from a gel liner and angle brush. I use MAC's Fluidline with their 266 angle brush.

What are your tips and tricks?

I love Cherries In The Snow...they make it in a matching nail polish as well.

A good tip: groom the eyebrows. As a MUA I have seen WAY too many women who over pluck or SHAVE their eyebrows, or don't groom them at all. Eyeshadow draws even more attention to stubblies that show from shaving and they sure as heck do not go away (I've seen girls with 5 o'clock eyebrow shadow!). Over-plucking is an easy fix by using a powder in a shade closest to your eyebrow color and a stiff angle or straight short bristle brush. I use a fixant or water to keep the powder from sprinkling everywhere. Powder looks more natural than a liner or brow pencil does. Pluck any strays that fall outside of the natural brow shape and using a fine toothed comb (mustache grooming comb works really well for this), comb the brows straight up...trim the ends that fall outside of the brow shape. That allows for the brows to look more groomed. Gotta trim that like a guy has to trim his mustache. Fill in with powder where it looks sparse.

And if you're going to do a photo shoot: groom those puppies. There's nothing harder to work with than ungroomed brows and a lot of us feel odd plucking someone else's brows.
I knowww! My little sister just shaved the arches off of the TOP of her brows, which are naturally gorgeous and full. There was stubble. She's 16 and somehow under the impression that thin, straight brows are desireable. But at least she isn't plucking them, therefore ruining them forever. I fall victim to an over-pluck from time to time, but for the most part I'm proud of my brows.

People don't realize how important a well groomed brow is when attempting to look polished and well put together.
Spend some time looking this forum and you'll find a ton of great threads that will help you with this. Also, be sure to head over to the Dollhouse. Best place to get any and all information about make up, hair and DIY.

I love me some Revlon.
I have naturally light eyebrows from being a natural blonde, So I fill my eyebrows in with a charcoal black powder using an eyebrow smudge.
(excuse my uncurled bangs)

Besame - im going to have to check it out!

Russian Red is my Partner in Crime!!!
Good info here!
I've swatched Russian Red and I know everyone loves it, but I've actually never purchased it. I was about to, but decided to try Dubonnet instead- which I love.

I miss having bangs... even having to curl them every day. Oh well. I've been trying to grow them out for almost 7 years now, and knowing it takes my hair that long to grow is all the more reason not to make that venture again

7 years!! And I've only managed to get them down to maybe my bottom lip.
