My BF and I stayed up late the other night and took a lot of pictures, just for the purpose of helping me learn how to pose like a pin up girl. I noticed I have a disappearing neck! I'm not sure what to do. When I try to correct the problem, I usually look like I'm craning and that's not flattering either.

Also, I try to look natural, but sometimes my smile seems forced. He makes me laugh during the shoots, and that results in my smile being way to big, LOL. Maybe I am being too particular.

Anyone, have any posing tips? Photographers, how do you direct your models? Is there any one single most important thing about posing that I should know?

I posted in the off topic section, so that I could get feedback from both models and photographers.
Thanks everyone!

My only suggestion as a model, is to study yourself in an mirror. You'll feel silly doing it, but it's really the only way that you can realize your facial expressions to find what works and what doesn't, as well as see how your body looks when doing certain poses. You'll eventually get to where you'll have your movements memorized and feel more comfortable doing them in front of a camera.
As far as your "disappearing neck" issue goes, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this, but perhaps hoisting your chest outwards a little more will help? Stick out those ta-ta's and raise your chin, lol.
When it comes down to photo shooting, any photographer you work with will help you with posing, I'm sure. They'll point out when you have disappearing body parts, and what not. You'll gradually begin to take to it naturally. I promise. =0]
It's like instinct for me now, to know what angles work best for me. When to flex which muscles for definition, and to what degree I need to point my toes. What to do with my hands to avoid what I call "awkward hands syndrome", lol. Just remember to suck in your gut and always have your face aimed in the direction of light, and you'll be great. =0D
Yes, it does help. And you're so right. The most best looking poses were the most difficult ones to do! LOL. And thanks for the compliment

Try doing a shoot with your boyfriend with a full length mirror behind him so you can see what you look like as you're posing... Really though I think it's just about practicing! I generally find that if you feel awkward in a pose and think you look ridiculous, it looks fierce as hell When you're relaxed and comfortable your shouders slump and your entire posture goes South... So work every part of your body, right down to your fingertips and your toesies, poise and point and use every bit of you!

Hope this helped a bit x

PS: You are gorgeous!
Good advice Tessa LeTaunt
My neck just disappears. I wish I had a beautiful long neck, but it always looks so short in photographs. If you can even see it at all. I know it exists! LOL I've seen it! But somehow.. it just disappears. I wonder if it's a combination of camera angle and trying to look down a tad to give myself bedroom eyes. Hehe.

Thanks for your awesome advice. I'm definitely going to be stuck in my mirror (and sticking out my tata's LOL. ) whenever I have free time.

My favorite photo shoot assistants all have the same thing to say... CHIN UP!! Just keep saying it over and over in your head. Keep your chin up and you won't lose your neck or get a double chin. Good luck, and let see some pix in this post!
Girls often raise their shoulders. Drop your shoulder and stick out your boobies and that'll fix it!
Oh no, that set of photos was awful! The only good shot I have from it is the one I posted on my page. We had very poor lighting, so the whole set was grainy and very yellow.

We were going to take some photos tonight but my mister woke up from our nap feeling so sick. Maybe tomorrow we will try again. I'm so bummed, I styled my hair today. Oh well, dirty hair=better updo for tomorrow. LOL.

Thanks for the advice!

I do have that bad habit. I notice it when I am exercising. I've been working on my posture with Yoga.
