I was just wondering what type of experiences you've had from MODEL MAYHEM? Was it GOOD or BAD? I would like to share MY EXPERIENCE with you. Pretty much all of my shoots have been booked via photographers that I've met through Model Mayhem. Kansas City practically revolves around that site, or at least used to. It's not so big anymore, now that we have a decent network ring circulating through Facebook.
I've never had a bad experience through meeting with someone that found me on MM. If anything, it makes things a little easier because I can see what other models the photog has worked with, and shoot them a message to see how their experience was and if they'd recommend that I work with them. I've yet to hear any major horror stories, thankfully. Just that some pervy photographers would later start text messaging pictures of their junk in hopes of a boob photo in return. =0/

Edson, I couldn't agree with you more about taking an escort. AND I make sure any shoot I book is in a public place...no " You can come to my house or my private studio"...no way!

Being on the other side of the lens, I have not had many positive experiences with MM. I've had several models who contacted me through the site flake on me at the last minute. Left a bad taste in my mouth, so much so that I deleted my account.

However, for a model it is an excellent way to expose yourself to countless talented photogs, MUAs, etc. Just remember to have a little common courtesy when arranging a shoot with someone (sorry if that sounded like a lecture).

Its True... - You need to get your prints when working TFP- Bring a USB or your own memory card! If you can - try to get something that day. Make sure you get all the info- email address... phone number... Face book... That way you can stay on them for your prints

I like MM because before I really found myself on PL, Model Mayhem helped me get some great shoots.
I haven't had any negative experiences on there yet, and hopefully I wont. I like MM because you can see their photos and what others have said about them and models they have worked with, etc.
And I agree with Edson, people just need to be smart and be observant of who they are contacting (or who's contacting them) and whether or not it would be a good idea to do the shoot. And YES, i bring an escort with me to all shoots.
And I understand how MM models can be flaky, there are a lot of amateur gals who aren't sure about shoots or how to be professional, and not bail at the last minute. I can see how it can be rough on photographers on that end.

As a photographer I have had mixed success finding reliable models from the MM pool. The models with experience have all been reliable in that they showed up and were professional. However, I now refuse to work with new models. For some reason they schedule an appointment for pay or TFCD, confirm, then don't show up. No call, no apology, no maturity. And, they have kept another model from working that session.

Both models and photographers should check the referrals.

well i find model mahem is ok for some exposure
but i mostly find it span emails from scammers wanting you to do a catolouge shoot and they will pay thousands......but they want your sin numbe rand all that
plus if yuo a new member you can only upload 10 pics, unless you pay to have a couple more
its not the best layout i find either
i find that facebook has been more useful for setting up shoots
i agree with the escort, if someone says no to bringing an escort it is smart to just walk away
i still have my mm acount but so far facebook and pl are the major networking sites for me

It's unfortunate that photographers have to go through this as well. If people would only stick to their word and show up. On the flip side of this, I will say that things do come up and people should just be mindful and alert the other person as soon as possible if they can't make it. So they can be professional and reschedule the shoot. The best advice I've heard so far is to check the referrals to see what people are saying. - XOXO Aubrey

I love Model Mayhem. Although I strongly agree with Edson, ALWAYS TAKE AN ESCORT. I'm always accompanied by my boyfriend and sometimes he even has to take time off work, but he never lets me go to a shoot alone. Trust no one.

Also, always look into the photographers work. Do your research, check there other websites and look into profiles he/she has worked with. Make sure they are legit, because I heard there are a lot of fakes out there and a lot of them are pervs lurking around Model Mayhem.
