I agree with Richie, I think it should have something Tiki in it. Tiki does not always equal jungle, and jungle does not equal Tiki. I've seen lots of beach tiki themed stuff, but that doesn't mean a picture of a pin up on a beach is tiki. I hope that makes sense....
Hmm, good question. There definitely does have to be a Tiki present in the photo in order for it to be considered a Tiki themed shoot, but I suppose a jungle theme could easily tie in with all of that as well... although, whenever I think "jungle", I more so think VooDoo than Tiki. =0/
Tiki is Polynesian, so I would have to say no, although I know a leopard throw rug might look good in a tiki bar. Black Panthers are often associated with "tiki bars" etc., but those are really Cuban themed decor. Panthers were native to Florida, and although the furniture and style was similar to Polynesian style, it isn't actually "tiki."
Today people mix the styles together and it looks ok.
My tiki bar is a mix of tiki, island, pirate, and even classic cars. Strictly tiki would certainly be Polynesian, but American Tiki has, like American culture, is an amalgamation of different styles.
IMNSHO, as long as there is a tropical kitchy feel to the look it is tiki enough.
I just wanted to add that yes, JUNGLE, does fit into TIKI. It is actually a form of Tiki music. However, if the shot is heavily jungle themed, you might want to check if it has atleast a few Tiki images or props in the shot!! - XOXO Aubrey
