I made my own hair rats

Since they are kind of hard to find and expensive really for what they are, I made some of my own hair rats tonight. It's super easy and cheap!
Take a nylon stocking (walmart has pairs of nylon socks for 33 cents!) and get some pillow stuffing (poly fill another walmart cheapy - $2 bucks).
Cut the hose/stocking to the length you want, and fill it with the width you desire. You can even use these for faux bangs. Heres a variety of sizes and two colors I did.

Awesome! Waaay better than my roommate's suggestion of saving up all the stuff off my hairbrush for months- ugh!

I did some searching online and a few people mentioned making them out of nylon. figured I would try it.

Technically, that's what a hair rat is. It's how they were made years and years ago. lol However, I prefer the poly fill method. Just be sure to get nylons that match your hair color! may even consider dying them after you make them to make sure the poly fill doesn't show through. :)
