This one's for the ladies, haha. I'm looking into birth control options, but wanna know what works for others before making a decision.
I had a Mirena IUD implanted shortly after my son was born (August of '07) but had it removed in March due to comfort issues.
In chat the other day, discussion of Implanon came up. I'm not all too comfortable with the thought of having a match-stick sized rod implanted into my arm, but if anyone has this and likes it I may reconsider. =0p
I'm more so interested in Seasonique, but it's still rather new to the market, which makes me hesitant. =0/
What kinds of birth control are you ladies on?

I'm on the POP called cerazette. I find it works really well cause i have incredibly heavy periods. Like to the point where i couldn't move out of bed for a week. When I'm on them i barely even get a twinge of pain.
I've never had implants or anything due to me being terrified of needles an the like. So, personally I don't know how well they work ect.

The only down side with the POP is you do have to take it around the same time each day. It sucks, but for me its better than the alternative ;)

hope that made some sense lol *hugs*
Personally, I'm on the pill. The majority of my friends are on the pill too. As Nicola said, really good if you happen to get heavy periods. I also had the problem where my cramps were to bad to the point of being stuck in bed, even passing out at times! Now, I barely get cramps, I know exactly when to expect my period and I know roughly what the flow will be, etc. The only two pills I can recommend are ovranette or cerazette. One friend of mine has had the implant, it's obviously highly convenient but if you're not very good with needles, this might not be for you. You can usually feel it and sometimes see it through your skin which is slightly frightening but you should just ask about and see what people recommend!
I've heard lots about IUD - to me it just sounds scary!!

Good luck! xx
I'm on a birth control called Depo Provera, it's an injection given intramuscularly every 3 months. I started taking it 9 years ago and I LOVE it! I don't get a period (*Nelson voice* haha!), which probably sounds super weird to some of you. Because of the shot, my body doesn't produce any of the stuff that the body gets rid of during a menstrual cycle, so there's no need for one. I've had friends who have been on it who complain of weight gain, but I've not experienced that myself.

I'd never remember to take a pill everyday so this is def. the best option for me.
I have been on Ortho Evra ( the Patch). i have had it for at least 5 years now and i just apply to my skin and change it once a week. I was thinking about doing the inserts but its to expensive. It been good for me so far and my husband is happy, no babies. Hope that helps
I'm not on anything at the moment as I think my body needs a break cos all these things can't be healthy I feel lol but I did have the implant, I would deffinately recomend it and as for comfort I use to forget it was there and more importantly there were no babies so works well lol x
Depo is awesome and its over 99% effective.
Seasonique is a great resource for both birth control and menstral problems.

It is basically the same thing as the regualar same dose pill, it is taken for almost three months instead of the typical month. Technically menstation is a sign of fertility and it not an actual period when you are on birth control, it is a pill period. Periods are only necessary for those who want to become pregnant.

The only downside is that it needs to be taken around the same time to reduce the chance of breakthrough bleeding.

If you have a hard time remembering to take a pill every day at the same time, you should look for a more long term form of birth control. There are patches, nuva ring, implants, and sterilization.

For any of this in CA at least you will need to get a pap smear in order to get a perscription for any of these things. That would be a great time to ask for samples. So you can try it without putting up so much money for it. The companies website gives discounts as well.

We as females should be greatful for the stuggles and the fight that Margaret Sanger put up for us.

"No woman can call herself free who does not own and control her body. No woman can call herself free until she can choose consciously whether she will or will not be a mother." -Margaret Sanger
Ive actually been wondering the same the past few days. Im 17, in a long term commited relationship and hhave been thinking about getting the pill, or patch or a long term thing like a shot, or implant. Its hard to figure all this stuff out without a mom or someone to talk to about it.
so hopefully my pin up big sister can give me a hand?
Any kind of implant just freaks me out out to be honest. I always swore I would never go on the pill because its "unnatural and dangerous" but with my life all over the place right now my doctor put me on the combined pill to calm me down and Ive got to admit I feel better than I have in years. Though I still would not like to think of it as a long term option. Im more likely to get a sterilization personally.
Everyone I've known who has an implant or IUD has told me horror stories, at least with the pill you can just stop taking it if you get side effects.
I've heard too many bad things about depo provera for it to be an option for me.

I take Ortho-Tri-Cyclen. It's a triphasic pill, meaning the dose escalates throughout the month. It's good for acne. Tri-Nessa is the generic version.

Another option for acne issues is Yaz (Yazmin). It's a monophasic pill, meaning you take the same dose daily throughout the month. I tried it, but it didn't work so well for me.

There are so many pills on the market that it can be a bit overwhelming. That's b/c everyone reacts differently to hormones. Talk to your doctor about your needs/wants and ya';; can figure out what's best for you.
I have been on both the pill and the implanon i get major migraines around that time so there is only one pill on option for me. I like the implanon as it last for 3 years. it doesnt hurt as they give u a local and u forget about after awhile.
Here in oz it only costs about $40, that is not bad for 3 years worth of not worrying whether you remembered to take a pill or not.
I really would suggest the implanon.
*cute poster!*
I probably won't be much help because I've never taken hormonal birth control. I'm not comfortable with artificial hormones taking over my body! I just don't feel like dealing with possible side effects. I use a spermicidal gel.
