I'm not the girl that looks like barbie but I've never had any serious health problems. I'm a curvaceous beauty with a great bill of health. Recently though I've been feeling ill. I was getting dizzy spells and head aches. Some people were saying its just stress from work. I eat well enough and go to the gym twice a week so I thought they were right. On Feb. 28th I collapsed at work and got sent home, the next day I went to the doctor. She asked a bunch of questions and did tons of test on me. I returned a few days latter anxious to hear what was wrong with me. I think I made myself sick with worry, I kept thinking of the worst possible things. Finally after two hours of waiting the doctor came in and told me the results of my test. It is something rather serious but better then what I was expecting to hear. I'm anemic, its not a severe case but the doc wants me to take iron pills and take it a little easier at work. I have my good days and my bad days but other then that things seem to be getting back to normal for me. anyone have any suggestions on what I can to to try and get better sooner?
Anemia sucks..I got it as a teenager and had to take iron pills. : ( I still take a pill every day becuase I don't want things to get worse again..I don't think there's anything more that can be done. Apparently eating dark green veggies like spinach helps..other then that just take the iron pills. : /
There are many different types of anemia, with many different causes. The treatment is different in each case. It sounds like yours is iron-deficiency anemia which is one of the more common types. Take your iron pills. It works best on an empty stomach, but some people find that it irritates their stomach so it's ok to take with food. Feel better soon!
I was anemic whilst I was very ill just eat the right foods and iron pills, just make sure you eat enough and take the pills and you should be okay. Hope you feel better soon, if things get worse take some time off work til your better, health comes first! Xx
I agree with pretty much everyone here so far. Anemia is actually very common, and you're very lucky that your particular type of anemia is caused by an iron deficiency! :) Take your pills, drink lots of water, and take it easy sweetie! ((hugs))
While I was pregnant with my daughter I was constantly tired, dizzy, lethargic and just felt terrible, I worked at a retail store as a cashier and found myself having to leave the register because I could barely stand. It was terrible, The doctor eventually told me I was anemic and I was told to take Iron pills as well, Unfortunately the pills made me sick, So if I didn't take them I was sick and if I did I was sick. It sucked.
Up until a few months ago, I realized that pregnancy had nothing to do with my anemia and I started taking the Iron pills once again. They worked wonderful and I have so much energy now. I suggest if the Iron pills do make you feel sick is...take them in the morning with a glass of orange juice or if you hate them all together for some reason try flinstone vitamins! I take a vitamin everyday and so does my little one.
Also, Eat your veggies. Sometimes with anemia though veggies just aren't enough, I have a healthy balanced diet with lots of leafy vegetables and still find myself needing my iron pills.
