Are any of you this extreme? Personally, I don't think I could live like this, but the fashions I could definitely live with.

Apologies if someone you can't watch this - country boundaries might apply. But if you can't here's a quick summary from the website:

"We all find ways to escape the stresses of twenty-first century life. While most people find solace in foreign holidays, exercise or a large glass of wine, some people have found a very different survival strategy: they are retreating into the past.

Sally Hewitt's First Cut film takes a step back in time to meet four women who are desperate to be old-fashioned housewives."

These women are extreme! I'm talking the clothes, the hair, the make up - a lot like us gals here - but also their ideas and morals of a 'domestic goddess' and the outside world.

i can't see it either :( i really wanted to watch it
what are their ideas and morals of being a domestic goddess? how do they take it to the extreme?
The 1930's woman admits she wouldn't go outside her house into the real and modern world if she didn't go to work, and the 1950's woman makes sure she looks perfect at all times and does everything for her husband. Neither want children because they would have to let their child into the real world and they don't want to pollute their children that way; the 1940's woman did want them but just to fulfil what was expected of a 1940's housewife.

:( it won't let me watch it, but it sounds a bit like the mini-series that PBS ran here called 1900's House, which was a show about an English family that lived life as if it were 1900 for three months, during which time they were required to cook, clean, and bath using only period tools andliving in a period house. The father gave up shaving after much dificulty with a straight razor! It was followed up with two other shows, Pligrim House and Frountier House both filmed here in the US. I'd always wished that there was a show caled 1940's House, I'd apply in a heartbeat.

REALLY wish I could see this!!!
We have loads of series like that over here; we've covered the 1900's, the 1940's a number of times (just a house, a evacuation of children, and a coal mining village) and I vaguely remember them doing a Regency House which was supposed to reflect the romantic values of Jane Austen, and then a Edwardian style series to show the differences between the upper class and the working class.

However this series is not fiction like those mentioned above, and these are the real lives of the women in the program. It's more like a documentry than a social experiment.

I am just going to scan youtube to see if there's anything on there, and I will be sure to post.

I was raised REALLY old school, my hair, make-up & nails had to be done before I could leave the house and I was raised to do for my husband and kiddos before doing anything for myself. I'm lucky because my husband is a clean freak so he helps around the house but when we first got married and I wasn't working I wouldn't let him touch anything...I did it all even the yard work!! I liked making sure he was comfortable at all times. :-D
Thank you Youtube!
