Why do you love pin up?

I was just thinking about my passions the other day, vintage, pin up...cars. Where do my passions come from? I think at the bottom of it all, is it reminds me of my great grandma and of a simpler time...I feel closer to that utopia when I am in my vintage clothing, or doing some pin up...nothing makes me happier than beautiful vintage dish towels...it's just Grandma Ruby to the T...that's what is in it for me...I'm wondering, what is the pull for you guys and dolls out there?

I feel the same way, I'm thankful enough to still have my nana around and she's always inspired my fashion. She loves seeing my hair rolled, with a fresh flower tucked behind my ear. Pin up'ing is what Fashion and modeling should be, healthy natural ladies. Everything from the 40s-to 50s was just great, the music, the fashion, the cars!

For me it is many things. One thing is that it unconventional from the standard mainstream, it is sub-culture. I've never been one to feel like I want to be part of the masses out there, yet I enjoy beauty so this is a perfect fit. Another is that women of all shapes and sizes partake in our lifestyle and we generally support each other so that is always good.

The other is that yes, it does remind me of a simpler time too. It does remind me of family and lazy spring days and picnics and when people could come together and enjoy each other's company. When I go out to car shows that's what I am reminded of are my family BBQ's. Many of my family are now long gone or passed away and we might have a get together every couple of years so its always fun to go out to the shows.

When I was a little girl.. I thought the pinup vintage stuff I saw was so beautiful. The women to me looked so classicly beautiful...Pinup to me is a art form that can transform into any era. I have a giant love for it. Lastly it is something I want to finally be apart of.... that my heart has always been apart of.

I fell in love with this culture for a couple of reasons. One is the fact that it reminds us of a simpler time (stated above!). My boyfriend has a 1949 Ford and when you look at it you can't help but imagine all the things that weren't around. Mainly technology, no internet, cell phones, online banking, satellite TV.... Things were plain and simple.

The pinup modeling really caught my attention for the simple fact that it does not pigeon h*** anyone. You can be of any weight, height, shoe size, hair color. You can have tattoos, peircings... I love it because as pinups we are beautiful!!!

For me, all the reasons listed and... the pinup look is lady like and sexy at the same time.

This is also another reason I like our lifestyle. I was sort of trying to get to that but I couldn't quite find the right words...

I've never felt more like me than I am when I'm dressed to the Nine's and enjoying the original rock and roll. :) I love how back in the day people met people with positive attitudes and friendship instead of cynicism and ego. :) I take care of elderly people, WWII vets, the first flight attendants, mothers who made their lives around their children, the original homemakers, even engineers who worked with Howard Hughes. I love the hardworking people who made us who we are and what better way to pay homage then to reinvent it while keeping it's foundation?

It makes me whole. :)

I've been asked this question alot and it's so hard to answer.....hard to explain.....it's just like this weird thing within me thats always been there ever since I saw the movie Dirty Dancing when I was in the 3rd grade. After that day at the age of about 8 I was utterly and completely enamored with everything 50's and 60's and still am. For me it's all of it, not just the hair/makeup and fashion but especially the music, the cars, the movies/tv shows and the STUFF! Like household items......

I didn't discover the "rockabilly" scene till I moved to California back in 2003. I knew of rockabilly music and I liked it, I had no idea there was a whole group of people that called themselves that and dressed/drove the cars/lived the part and liked the same stuff. Until then I just thought I was weird!

I didn't even know about "pinup" until about '06......at my first Viva, someone told me I should "do pinup modeling" at the car show (I was dressed normal, jeans and a tee shirt, flip flops, no makeup!) and I was like "huh?" I asked my husband to explain it to me, we walked around the car show and he pointed out the girls posing. I was like "ooohh! OK!!" I knew what "pinup girls" were, my immediate thoughts were of the actresses that used to send their photos to soldiers in WWII or like the Elvgren or Vargas paintings......I just had no clue there were girls recreating the look and doing this as an actual hobby or career! Once I found that out I was hooked and did my first shoot about a year later.
