Today I feel like I'm all grown up...bye bye Mustang, hello new car! (& glasses)

My dad had 11 classic mustangs at one point in his life. Mustangs have always been something pops and I bonded over. We shared the love for that iconic vehicle. When I turned 14 my dad handed me a set of keys and a piece of paper with an address. He said goto the back yard and look under the cover. There it was, the car I had what I consider to be my first memory in, "the green one".  I would sit and play as a baby in that car, messing with the wheel...lucky for me  during the most recent restoration I was able to share this special moment with Anthony, my own son...dad was visiting too and we all got to share it.

I was a freshman, everyone laughed as I rolled it into the auto shop sitting on a milk crate.  I restored it in school, skipping tons of classes to stay in Auto Shop and by my Sophmore year everyone wanted to roll to lunch in it, go figure! In the beginning it was a daily driver, I had 2 other projects in between, a mustang named "S1L1C0N" & a BMW named "PYRITE". 18 years later I'm driving the same car.and it has once again become a daily driver under the name "KRYPTONITE", inspired again by  the paint color. When relocating to SF, the choice between bringing the BMW or the Mustang was easy. The BMW was sold and the mustang jumped on a trailer for the haul. Lots has changed since then...

This weekend I traded in the Mustang for a vehicle that better fits my current needs. I missed a quick & nimble car, SF parking sucks so I wanted something small, the mustang had no trunk space and could barely fit Anthony's stroller so I wanted trunk space.  After reading Asia's story about all the facial reconstructive surgeries she needs, my visions of a bad accident in the stang increased and I knew I was being selfish driving it daily. For my family, I needed safety and I knew exactly what I wanted to get!

It was hard to say goodbye to a car I always said I'd die and be buried in, I suppose deep inside I really didn't want that to be the truth. The stang wiped my bank account thru 3 complete restorations and I loved it every single time. But I feel today, that I made the right decision.  I wanted to cry as I left the lot, seeing the stang with dealer writing on the windshield, but I'm very happy so I know I did the right thing. Dad is all the way in Bolivia now, retired. But thanks to his gift to me many years ago, my new decision is possible with ease. Thanks Dad!

I present the new ride. A 2010 Honda Fit, a true party on 4 wheels!

PS: I also got my eyes checked for the first time ever last week, today I wear glasses. ;-P

PSS: A super special thanks to Seanny Ice who is sure to post here soon. Without Sean this most recent restoration would not have been possible. Because well you don't want me holding torches and i'm not tiny enough to fold myself under the dash or hood like he was ;)

Here's to a good new home, on someones trailer like the bimmer please!

You are such a good person. Seriously.
My heart breaks with you about loosing the 'Stang, and the story behind it was awesome. But now you've got a nice Honda Fit to go with your super sleek glasses :D *PICS!*
I'm going to go ahead and re-post my twitter response here...because it's so VERY true. :)

"@PLTEAM And now you can say that your Papa helped you to help YOUR son. That's Awesome beyond belief :D"

True Story.
You have a big point with the whole safety thing. I used to have a 67 Mustang, loved that car to death. Until it almost killed me in an accident. I was an inch away from breaking my teeth when I hit my face with the steering wheel. Doctors told me I was super lucky that the damage wasn't worst, got out with stitches in my mouth and a super swollen face.

I sold it after that, I knew it was time.
I'm so proud of you. You're like a new man in new glasses driving a new car. You made this decision on your own, and I know you're proud of it too. Anthony's gonna love having a new car! :D
I'm so proud of you too!! It takes a big person to make a decision like that...and you did it all for the little man. :D You rock the house!
Congrats again!

Everything runs its course man and even the best things can come to an end. Its all good (if not great) though because the car is just plain better for you and your family. I'm fairly certain though at some point you will unleash your creativity on another car.

As for the Mustang. Although the car may be gone, the memorys remain of all the things you've been through with it and that is priceless. Even from my perspective as it's occasional grease monkey. The Honda is great though and seeing as how they last virtually forever, you'll have plenty to look forward to with it as well. I'll make sure to check it out when I get back to Cali again.

Take care bro!
Ouch! Giving up the Mustang must have hurt. Oh well, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Now get someone to do some kick ass pin striping on that rice rocket!!!
I'm a little sad that the mustang had to go. When it comes to you and your family's safety though, there really isn't another choice. And now that you've had your eyes checked and got glasses - you're a lot safer for everyone on the road!
I loved the Stang... unless it was raining, then it scared me, lol. But I'm so proud of you for doing the grown up thing..... now lets go play on the swings!

Thanks all for the killer feedback. Makes me feel real good today!
