Not sure about adding to it, but expressing it for sure. Just like what you wear, how you do your hair, the car you drive, only permanent! I would be the same person that I am without my tattoos, but they allow me to share my personality with the world, without saying a word.
i don't think it really adds to it, i know plenty of people who get tats and think that this will somehow make them "dangerous" or "sexy" but there's no reason behind them. i think for some people it is an expression of their life or of their personality or of the self that they aspire to be. but i also think that some people getting tats only shows how little personality they really had to begin with.
I don't believe that tattoos add to any personality. It simply is a means of outwardly expressing it. However, some folks like to judge that a person's personality is negative based on the fact that they simply have tattoos without actually meeting that person or really truly looking at those tattoos.

I have a lot of car/hot rod tattoos...which allows me to show that I love cars...to me my love of cars are part of my personality and it allows me to show that. I also have a couple "moto" tattoos to show my love of my husband who is former Navy as well as one tattoo that shows my favorite guitarist.
I had no personality... so i got tattooed.

Kidding :)
Not really. There are many people out there who hold that annoying elitisit 'better than thou' attitude because they have tattoos.

Personality comes from withing, and no matter what you put on that package, you cannot disguise inner ugliness.

Unfortunately, I have have met people who won't even give you the time of day unless you belong to some secret tattoo society. On the other hand, there are also some very awesome individuals out there who are heavily inked, and it always makes me laugh that people are impressed at how down-to-earth they can be.
My tattoos don't define me, but they do give a little peek into my soul......
WOW! I have NEVER met anyone like that in the "tattoo" scene.

As far as adding to personality? No, not unless someone got them for the specific REASON of looking more "badass" or "cool". I imagine that those folks probably change their personalities a lot though...you all know the type....I like to call them Chameleons.

My body is my journal, it displays everything that is important in my life, in an artistic and unique way. They don't add to my personality, my personality adds to them.
My husband is a Navy Lifer, and we both Love and Respect our U.S. Navy....

I have an Epic Navy Back Piece planned ^_^ ROCK!
