Help! What colour to dye my hair?

Howdy y'all! I've been thinking about dying my hair for a while now, but I dunno what to do...

I was considering black, but I think I've decided against that, and I def. don't want to go lighter than I am now. I'm contemplating going a crazy colour like lime green or purple, I just need someone to puff me up and tell me it's a great idea LOL 

I got inspired to go untraditional after checking out all the hot mamas around here with electric hair colours in a recent forum post. I'd like to think of my hair as an accessory so it standing out is a plus for me.

I've attached a picture so you know what I'm working with now *be kind, it's an early morning sans makeup shot*. I'm pretty well up for any thing and desperate for a change, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I was a cobalt blue for a few years recently and think that's the only colour option I won't entertain.

I know you said you didn't want to go lighter BUT how about a dark red/auburn colour with flashes of bleach blonde in it? Like in your bangs or something?

TY ladies for the input! I'll have to bleach first anyway, I'll go ahead and do red, but probably more like a blood red, and leave the bangs blonde, and we'll see how that looks. I'll also grab some black to have on hand just in case, who knows, I might end up doing red with blonde AND black ;p

Hey, I know you were against going lighter, but I think that would look really good. Red was also my second choice. BUT, if you dye your hair red and leave your bangs blonde it will most likely bleed into your blonde making it pink. Red and blonde are hard to put together.

if u do red hair and blonde bangs try to wash them separately, otherwise it will bleed a whole lot, just like shalynn said. take it from a platinum blonde like myself! lol... was the red part first with your head back, then the blonde with yur head normal. then you can probably condition it all together. :)

TA DA!! Satruday was eventful, bought Special FX "Hot Lava" and "Raven" turns out they're more orange and purple than red and black. So back to the shop I go, this time I said eff it and bought boxed hair dyes *waits for groans*. It's been almost 10 years since the last time I've used a harsh box dye on my hair and figured it wouldn't be so bad. Turns out I was right. I really like the way it turned out, my boyfriend likes it and my dad didn't even recognize me the first time he saw it.
