Help! I really want to mount some of my prints on wood and give them a textured look using varnish, kinda like the picture attached.
But i have no idea what i should use, that won't effect the quality of the print and will give an uneven and textured look. I've googled it and got no answers :(
Any helpful tips would be much appreciated so i don't waste a bunch of time and destroy a bunch of prints!!
Hi,
I can't really see the texture in your pic but I guess you want the photo flat to the wood then the varnich layer over the top.
If you need it bombproof them you will have to get your print dry mounted onto the wood using heat and pressure. You can get this done at the lab or a good framer. If you can't stretch to the cost, use 3M Display Mount (brown can) that dries as a permanent bond after light pressure is applied, but make a spray booth out of a box as it gets everywhere and I rotted my carpet at Art school with that stuff!
For varnich, you will have to experiment as to whether oil or water based is best. If you let me know what texture you are after, I can try some varnishes out for you as I have all kinds in my studio.
Hope that helps,
