Where to go in LA?

So my husband HATES L.A., and I feel quite the opposite! I miss and love L.A. and want to plan a weekend trip there........which the man has agreed to accompany me on :) It won't be for a while, cause we are broke as s***, but I am thinking September for my big 3-0 b-day.

 

It's been years since I have visited, and last time I did I had fun but didn't really get to explore the cool spots cause I was staying in OC and, unfortunately, spent most of the time in traffic :( or inside the dark cave of Ye Coach and Horses totally wasted....

 

I for sure want to do the whole cheesy tourist celebrity home tour thing, see the Griffith Observatory, the La Brea tar pits.....and I am sure after only a day of that we'll be starving for some rockabilly action, so my question is, where do all the rockabilly cats hang out in L.A.? I have heard about this place called the "Bigfoot Lodge" and from the pics it looks cool. Not looking for anything fancy, just local watering holes where the kids and cars congregate.

 

I'd appreciate some feedback straight from people who live in L.A. or who know the area well. Depending on the tourist websites gets me nowhere......I type in "rockabilly bars" and it gives me the House of Blues......haha!

Spike's on Monday nights is "Rhythm N Booze" Record Hop and many times there is a band playing. There used to be a Sunday Show every week, during the day called Brunch Americana that was at the Redwood Bar and Grill in downtown LA, and Redwood has a lot of Rockabilly shows there. The first weekend of September usually has "The Hollywood Showdown" which is a psychobilly/rockabilly weekender. Shopping in Long Beach on 4th Street is a must. OC has lots of shows at the Tropicana and sometimes the Juke Joint. You should just try to find some LA promoters that are on my myspace list and add them. That is how I keep up with what is happening in LA since I don't live there either, but go there often.
