So does anyone have a "vintage" inspired kitchen? I would love to see some pictures please! I just bought my first house, it was built in the 80's but i am going to turn the kitchen into a 50's style kitchen. I already have a 50 model electric frigidaire stove, but i am considering buying a o'keefe and merrit one of my friends has.

I would love to have some inspiration!

Enjoy! Keep us posted on your progress too! I would love to see that fridge! :)
My friend re-did her kitchen 40s-50s, and I think one key element was the colors she used. Use colors that were popular during that time. She used mint green and white. Other vintage colors are turquoise, pink, butter yellow and use a bold contrast color like black, cobalt or red. Details are what makes something look vintage, in my opinion.

She had her counter tops covered in a boomerang patterned formica edged with chrome/style metal and has a vintage 50s formica table. She also added wood scallops along the tops of the cabinets near the ceiling and painted them alternate colors to match the walls and cabinets.

This is the only picture I could find. Sorry, there are hungover swedes and me without my hair done in the photo.

Kim, thanks for the picture! I actually have that color of blue already picked out for my walls.

My cabinets are horrible, ugly and a light wood, and then i have a tile YES TILE (really hard to clean) countertoup. And i was thinking about doing the formica counter tops instead.

I guess what really gets me is my cabinets, very unusefull and ugly.
paint them and add vintage style hardware! You can get vintage style hardware at restoration hardware and even at home depot :-)

Wow Kim, like a week ago I just painted my kitchen walls that color and replaced all my handles with those exact ones. I love the white cabinets but my dogs would make a mess of them toot-sweet :)

Actually putting in a new cork floor this weekend.

Found this vintage waffle iron, thought it would make cool wall decor...

I love that!

Another thing Rea did with her kitchen is she went for a vintage theme. She went for vintage mexican and has collected vintage cactus salt and pepper shakers, you can see the sheer curtains have rick rack and little pom poms on the bottom. She collected mis-matched colors of fiesta ware and she has little burro knick knacks on the shelf. She also collected some vintage souvenir pieces and placed them around the kitchen.

The bread thing and the can opener are particularly awesome. The stove is great. Does it need a lot of work?
Ebay is an amazing place for everything vintage, as you probably know. My parents are going to look at a complete vintage 'English Rose' kitchen suite to put into our kitchen. Hopefully it should look something like this...

And we've got loads of knick-knacks to put around to get the real vintage feel

The stove needs a new burner, and the spots on the front are mud. We have all the knobs for it the chrome is good. So yes the stove is in great condition!
Man that's nice! I just bought some vintage 1950's Crosley kitchen cabinets that these are inspired by and man do I love them!
