I love doing the pin curls but my 10 month old angel is a little devil when doing them. Does anyone have any tips on how I can get them done , i know their is the wait till he is asleep and i would totally do that if I didnt co-sleep with him. I try to gentle roll sponge curls in my hair hoping it turn out killer the next day but in the morning I look like a french poodle. I do need a trim so any help on some nice and neat hair tips would be awesome. Thank you in advance, to all you dolls with little ones running around and are able to get your victory rolls down. Thanks Dolls

If the curls come out too poofy, try making less pincurls with more hair rolled larger. This would also give you more time with your little one. :) Also try running your fingers through your hair before you brush it. Then brush it with a large tooth comb or brush with wide bristles. If the curls start to fall flat, just twirl a piece hair around your hair to give it bounce again.

Remember the directions the pincurls are going, how they will fall and make them all fall the same way. Does that make sense? Each side (of your head) should have the pincurls all rolled in the same direction. This will help it lay in that coveted shape when your done and also make it less poofy. If the hair is rolled away from the face, it will look like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz or Farrah Fawcett. If the hair is rolled towards the face, it will look more like Dita's shape or a more 30's-40's sultry look.

Do you use product before? I like to use setting lotion.

You only need a little bit. If you use too much, your hair will become too heavy to hold shape and can end up looking greasy. You can also make your own setting lotion by mixing equal parts water and gel. Never use hairspray before taking the rolls out because if you do, it will rip your hair when trying to comb and shape it and only make a mess. Spray a foot away from your hair when done styling.
Good luck, I hope this helped. I can't wait to see your finnished product!

Keep in mind too, that it all depends on how and where you begin the rolling of your hair in the sponge roller. For a softer, les french poodle, wave, begin the roll from the base of the strand. Try using a flexi gel hold on damp but not soaking wet hair.
BTW....great advice Tanya!

Please use better titles Lorilei. "Question" doesn't tell the readers what it is you're looking for and they may just not click on the thread.
Thank you Miss Rockwell De Vil, I hope it helps. :) You're a doll btw. I love your B&W hair!
I don't use rollers, I do traditional ol' pin curls with either bobbies or pin curl clips. Rollers always give me poodle head, unless I use hot rollers on dry hair. But I try to avoid heat styling because of the damage it does.

I know that when I do a wet set, I'll be battling frizz the next day, but a dry set doesn't necessarily hold as well. I've been experimenting with using a setting lotion (I use Motions Wrap Lotion, but Lottabody is really popular as well), allowing my hair to dry (or almost dry) and using a spritz bottle full of water to dampen and reactivate setting lotion without being too wet.

I'm getting to the point where I can set my pin curls really quickly, I just need more experiencing anticipating how they will fall the next day and the direction the curl is when I pin it. Brushing is really important. I'm still learning that art, but brushing helps mold and shape the waves. I've had the problem where my ends are frizzy but the rest of my hair is trying to be just right.

With practice you'll get faster and faster at setting your hair...soon it will be a breeze!

The victory rolls...I need more practice with those! I'm contemplating a hair cut, hoping it will be a bit easier.
I've found a little spray shine product tames my frizzies, not too much since its an oily product, I spray it into my palm, rub my hands together, and smooth it over the top (palms flat, no finger combing through the hair) after I've brushed the curls out. Spraying it with hairspray after brushing it into shape and smoothing down flyaways while the spray it still wet helps too.,
