I flipped about a year and a half back on the forums to check to see if this has been discussed before, so forgive me if someone's brought it up before then.

I'm running into a bit of a dilemma. Pinup is something I've been obsessed with for quite a while now, and I've just gotten bitten pretty bad by the modeling bug. The problem is, in real life I currently work in two different schools. I have an internship working with a guidance counselor at an elementary school, and I've been coaching speech and debate at a high school for over two years now. I'll most likely be substitute teaching starting next year, and hopefully within the next few years after graduation I'll either be teaching or counseling.

I had the most LOVELY and FANTASTIC boudoir photos taken yesterday and I'm SO hopelessly in love with the result!! I'm obviously not putting them on my facebook, or anywhere my students might find them easily, but I'm a little wary about putting them here or anywhere else, either. The photos are classy and wonderful (as if I'd do anything else haha!) but if just one of my high schoolers find them it would be a school wide scandal... and if just one parent gets a hold of them my career could be in jeopardy. This kind of limits what I can do as a model!!

I know a lot of you gals are professional models and probably haven't run into this problem, but does anyone else have to censor what goes online? How do you handle the situation?

Thanks, dolls!!

I'm a mom, and I used to work at a school. But I have never censored what I put out there. As far as I'm concerned, if people don't like what I do, that's their problem. I understand what you are saying about it causing a scandal, but I guess you have to decide what is more important, your job or your modeling. Most likely your job. But that doesn't mean you can't model, it just means you have to be careful what kinds of shoots you do.

The bottom line is it's your life, and you need to do what makes you happy. Life is too short to spend it unhappy.
Hey doll, we understand your concern and have built tools to help make this easy for you. When you upload photos you have the option to make them completely private, available only to your fans on the site (which you approve manually) or totally public.

Choose the option that best suits you. Since you want to have a portfolio online your best option is to select that they can only be viewed by friends.

Additionally, you can set your entire profile to be private and only viewable by friends too ;) Just another added layer of screening. This can be done here: http://www.pinuplifestyle.com/profiles/profile/privacySettings

Let me know if I can help in any way.
You can always set up a seperate profile for your modeling pics to keep it completely seperate from your "day job" Use the settings preferences as suggested by Edson. It's pin-up not penthouse. Don't do anything you'd be ashamed or embarrassed by and there shouldn't be any scandelous "school wide" siturations. And yes - life is too short to not be happy.
I could not be happier that myspace allows you to set photo albums to private. I really dont care who sees my profile on there, but when ALL my photos are public I get the weirdest of the weirdos e-mailing me asking bizarre questions.

And I worked at a school as a teaching assistant once upon a time, but never had any of the students or parents I worked with contact me on myspace, so it never occured to me to worry about them seeing my pics.

I think I wouldnt have added them as friends though, to maintain boundries between my work and social lives. After all- your personal life is none of their business to drag out into the open and use against you. You're on here to network with an industry that has nothing to do with your professional life therefore both minors and adults you work with have no business being on your profile as "friends". Having a separate profile for work relations could be nice and prevent you from seeming unfriendly.

What would you do if a Photographer contacted you about a shoot and it was the father/mother of a student you worked with? Would you do the shoot or turn it down to maintain the boundry? (its a rhetorical question to think about)
You bring up a really good point - I really have no idea what I would do if I was contacted by a photographer that happened to be the parent of one of my kids. I guess it would have to be a situational decision.

The reasons I'm friends with my students is that since I'm not a teacher yet, I'm not in the school every single day. It's easier for me to keep in touch with the kids through facebook if I need to speak to someone quickly. I do think I'm going to have to go through and really start separating things, though.

Thanks!

Thank you so much!!!
